Hi there

I am trying to open a .stp file in Fusion. I can upload it and it appears in the left pane, but when I double click on it there does not seem to be anything visible in Fusion, see picture below:

I know that the file is not empty because I am able to visualise it in Autodesk Viewer, see pic below:

Anyone knows what my problem could be? And is there a way to fix it?

In case you want to have a look at the file, I attach it as well:

Looks like the file only contains curves and Fusion can not read curve data from STP files. Fusion can only read curves from DWG\DXF or svg.

Thanks a lot for the answer. So is there a way to modify the file so it can be read by Fusion? I am creating the file myself, but I am not very familiar with step files. Did I understand correctly (from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_10303-21) that I'd have to pay for the specification of step files?

1) I used a software called Ashes (see www.simis.io). I'm part of the people developing it, but we're not CAD experts so we're not sure what we need to do for the file to be openable in Fusion
2) Is that something that can be done in Fusion, or that should come from the step file?

You need to use a different file format like DXF. Fusion just can not read curve info from STEP files.

It is not going to work well in Fusion though because you just have polylines rather than smooth splines. If I explode in Rhino there's over 10,000 lines, this will not work well in Fusion.

If you try lofting polylines you end up with hundreds of surfaces in Fusion.

Thanks everyone, that's quite useful. So it seems like if we want our files to be readable by Fusion we'd have to do things differently. We'll look into it.

Cheers
