@AmarandAgasi wrote:

If I draw a basic rectangle in a sketch, and then apply a four-corner filet with a parameter (say cornerFilet = 5mm), that works. If I then go in, drag the history back to the beginning, edit the parameters so that cornerFilet = 4 or 6mm, then drag the history back, the sketch doesn't update the filets properly.

So two questions:

1) Apparently you have to back to the beginning of history to edit parameters, so that they'll take effect across that history. Is that by design?

No, that simply is not the case!

Generally it is better to use modeling features for fillets than sketch fillets.

If you can share the design we can provide better feedback wat might be the problem

Literally this:

1) Set a parameter for sketch filet (sketchFilet = 5mm)

2) Create a 30mm square

3) Filet all four corners with sketchFilet

4) Modify sketchFilet parameter to 10mm (well within 30mm range, 10mm x 2 = 20mm)

5) Watch as the basic square's filets do not update properly

I went in, and I realized that setting the initial filet works differently than modifying it afterward in the corner?

So, I click on the first corner, enter sketchFilet, then click the remaining. I think maybe the order matters? I'm so confused.

So, given this new information, do I just need some training in filets? Is there a good, official place to learn how to properly apply multiple parametric sketch filets?

Also, why is it better to apply filets to objects rather than sketches? if I have a square, that I want to have rounded corners of a specific diameter, isn't the sketch filet the best way to do that?

No. Sketch a rectangle and fully constrain and dimension it. Extrude it into a solid body. Use the fillet feature to create the fillets.

@AmarandAgasi wrote:

I would suggest the self-paced courses:

Can you explain why body filets are preferred over sketch filets? I don't mind reading, or watching a course, but it sounds like a rather arbitrary choice to say that modifying a body is better than modifying the initial sketch/foundation?

Because the sketch solver has to constantly evaluate a sketch. The timeline feature only has to be evaluated once at creation, or re-evaluated if a dependent feature changes. In general I do not provide arbitrary advice 😉
