Model drawing to Illustrator

I create 3D models from a rectangular prism that is cut with a series of planes.

Part of the prism on one side of the plane is discarded. The retained portion repeatedly cut in a similar fashion.

I want to fabricate the model with cardboard and if I like the design with sheet steel, cutting a piece for each face.

How do I create an Illustrator (or other graphics program) readable file for each face of the prism?

I have tried selecting a face and creating a drawing on the face, but I can't figure out how to export it as a DXF file.

Rightclick sketch > save as DXF

Click on the face and select New Sketch.

P for Project (Geometry) and select the face (and any island faces if necessary).

Right click on the sketch and Save as DXF as indicated by @g-andresen

(If the sketch already exists, then no need to create a new sketch as described above.)

I then print out and paste onto thin cardboard that I use as a template for hand scribing and cutting the material.

If the part is too big for my printer - I add registration marks to multiple prints so that I can tape them together.

Thanks, that worked. Is there anyway to easily do this for all of the faces at once?

Hi,

You can project all surfaces in a sketch that lie in the projection direction.
