Just to let you know that there has been fix for this issue (not updating when clicking apply), and this will be in the next release (July2023).

I have tested the fix in our development builds and it is working as expected.

Turning off "automatic update on parmeters dialog does not work correctly

I was trying to diagnose another problem that occurred when I changed the first parameter and then cleared when I changed the second parameter. So in order to prevent F360 from recomputing after the first change I unchecked "Automatic Update"

(BTW, I really do like auto update so that I can see the model change with the parameters dialog still open.)

I made my changes and then noticed that in addition to the Okay button there was also an Apply button so I clicked it.

So I clicked yes. However, I did not see any changed to the body being displayed that should have changed.

Then I clicked Okay.

If I just click Okay, instead of Apply I see this dialog. I am positive that I have also gotten this dialog after using apply and answering yes to the above dialog, but I cannot seem to reproduce it today.

I again select yes

The body in the workspace does not change.

I use <ctrl>B to recompute and the body changes.

Summary

There are several issues rolled into this bug.

Turning off Automatic Update is not persistent. If I am working with a model that takes a very long time to recompute I don't want to have to remember to deselect automatic update every time I open the parameters dialog.

When I apply the parameter changes it should recompute, but it doesn't.

It should not ask me twice if I want to apply when I answered yes the first time.

After making changes in "no automatic update" mode, when I select Apply it should apply, not ask me if I want to apply. I already gave that command.

the parameters dialog does not act the way a dialog box should. I will create a separate post for that.

Hello @Julie_7,

I just want to say thank you for raising this issue so elegantly. Like @jodom4 has said, i think you would be a great candidate for the Insider build.
In regards to your summary:

Yes, we could make the option "sticky" so every time the dialog is re-opened it automatically gets set to how it was last set when the dialog was last closed.

and 3. This sounds like a bug. Need a model to show this behaviour. There is a known bug on Mac when you've made exactly one edit FUS-116648, works without issue when making multiple edits.

     4. This was done deliberately to avoid an accidental potentially slow compute. Maybe one for UX to comment on. We could add a "do not ask me again" checkbox

Could you let me know what OS you are using?
Also, would it be possible to share your model? This would help greatly as there has been a known issue with sketch dimensions becoming sick , which could cause a domino effect for other dimensions not updating correctly.

Again, thank you for taking the time to list your issues and concerns, this is immensely appreciated.

I am sorry that I didn't think to add the design file. Often I am in the middle of a very complex model and I don't want to interrupt myself to pare it down to something manageable. I am always glad to help. (My decades as a software engineer don't turn off when I am not at work. 🙂

Here are the instructions for the model that I uploaded. (And I found another bug.)

1. Import the model. You should be viewing an obvious 2x2 sized body.

2. open parameters, turn off auto update and change x_units to 3 and click in another field so that the apply button appears.

3. select apply, and confirm that you really want to apply the changes by selecting yes (I don't like this. There is no confirmation when auto-update is on.)

4. The body on the screen does not change. The recalculation did not happen.

5. (new bug) auto-update has been turned back on.

6. select okay to close the parameters window.

7. no change to the body in the workspace.

8. <ctrl>B to recalc

9. now the new value is used to recalc and the body in the workspace resizes.

Hello @Julie_7
I just want to start off by saying I'm very sorry for the delay in getting back to you on this.

I can easily reproduce the issue with the model not updating. Thank you very much for the steps you provide and for sending us your model. Really do appreciate it.
Good news - I have raised a ticket for the issue regarding not updating the model when clicking apply, and have passed it on to my development team. FUS-128757

Also, another ticket has been created for to make the Automatic updates sticky, so every time the dialog is re-opened it automatically gets set to how it was last set, when the dialog was last closed. FUS-128758

Thank you again for your time and your patience. Please do join the insider build, I think you would be a great asset and it also means you get to see new features and fixes before most other people.
