I am a hobbyist who has been using Fusion 360 for Personal Use for a couple of years.

For the last few days, I have been experiencing major drama when trying to open some files. The program hangs and reports "not responding". Even if I leave the program to run its course, there is still no response after 30 - 40 minutes.

I thought that my laptop's 16GB of RAM might be the cause, so I have now installed 64GB. The problem persists.

I have uninstalled/reinstalled Fusion 360. The problem persists.

I have ensured that no other programs are running (except AVG security).

I have checked my upload and download speeds. Around 25 Mbps up and 45-55 Mbps down.

Initially I thought that the files may have become too big (with many sketches and bodies) but I am also experiencing this issue with new, small files which I have just created.

I can open older files, albeit slower than I could with only 16GB of RAM.

Attempting to clone a body using Move/Copy causes the program to not respond.

Attempting to import a body or sketch using Insert>Derive causes the program to not respond.

Attempting to save a file often causes the program to not respond.

All in all, this is most frustrating and is beginning to make Fusion 360 almost unusable.

I really hope that someone can give me an idea of what I am doing wrong or what can eliminate these issues.

Thanks in advance, Peter

That link did not resolve for me. It did resolve enough for me to see the title: "Ferrari 321P chassis". That sounds like it could be quite large, depending on how detailed it is. If the design is bigger than 71MB, it might be that the file is just big and will take some time to open. Can you provide some insight on what is in this design? Did you create it yourself, using Fusion modeling tools, or did you download it from somewhere? Is the chassis a BRep, or might it be mesh data?

If you have something like Google Drive or other file hosting service available where you can place the design, we can share it that way.

This file has not many bodies and sketches. https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/b4isk09vypfr7c4i6crly/612P-ff-050-pod.f3d?rlkey=kf8302e11488eet7f8ucssjn3&dl=0

I really appreciate your help,
Peter

Hi Jeff,

Firstly, thanks for persevering with my issue.

Yes, the "Ferrari 321P chassis" file is big - 285mb. It is a slot car design. I drew the body using "Forms" and the other parts were designed in the "Solid" space. I think that means that the chassis is BRep (I'm not sure on that terminology). But there are no mesh parts in this file.

I also sent the link to a smaller file which has only a few bodies and sketches but still, for some reason, comes in at 77.5mb. This file also causes Fusion to not respond. This one is wierd though, because yesterday it did open once but subsequently actually caused my computer to shut down when I tried to re-open it. I had made no changes to the design while it had been open.

There is some derived commonality within the files which are causing these issues, so I'm wondering if there is some kind of corruption that has been spread by the "insert>derive" process.

Thanks again,

Peter

The engineering team is still investigating the "612P+ff-050+pod.f3d" file. But, they tested (and I also verified) that the large file (Ferrari+312P+chassis.f3z) does open correctly:

It took about 4-5 minutes with the program showing "not responding" twice during that process.

Again, this is weird because the design which I exported didn't open (and still doesn't) as I noted in my (message 12) reply.

Cheers, Peter
