Fusion 360 incredibly slow!

Hello,

I'm contacting you because this is no longer possible with Fusion360.

For some time now I've been experiencing mind-boggling slowness problems with Fusion 360, despite buying a high-performance machine. I never had these problems before with the same computer running Fusion360.

In fact, everything becomes impossible to do. Even the simplest tool operations are incredibly slow... There's also the fact that recording takes forever, and the software even crashes completely, and exports also take forever. For a simple extrusion function, it literally takes hours! For example, for a simple extrusion, it can take anywhere from 30 minutes to over 24 hours!

Have you ever encountered this problem and solved it?

My laptop is an MSI Pule GL76

Processor 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-11800H @ 2.30GHz, 2301 MHz, 8 core(s), 16 logical processor(s)

Installed physical memory (RAM) 32.0 GB

64-bit

File > export > save as f3d on local drive > attach it to the post

@jeronimo1986 Can you look at a couple of things to see where this performance problem could be generating from?

1. Can you check to see if all your windows update is current?
2. Can you also please check your graphics drivers to make sure there are no pending updates
3. When you witness a log like, can you go to Help-Support and diagnostics- Disgnostic log files and attach the zip file that this generates?

For things like export taking a long time, would like to look at the network. Many times we have seen restarting the router fixes a lot of such kind of issues.

Can you at least show a screenshot?

Shift Win S and CTRL v to Copy and Paste into a reply.

What happened to external link to file?

Right click on file name and select Send to Compressed (zipped) Folder.

How big is the resulting compressed *.zip file?

Is this a commercial license of Fusion?

If not, do you have a OneDrive or GoogleDrive account?

Do you have any imported Mesh bodies in the file?

Do you have any red or yellow highlighted unresolved issues in the Timeline?

Do you have large complicated sketch patterns rather than computationally inexpensive feature patterns in the file?

Are all of the sketches fully defined?

Does CTRL b return any errors?

So many questions that a screenshot might answer.

Is your bounding box within relatively close proximity to the Origin (+- 100,000cm)?

No. I'm using the free trial version (with a maximum of 10 different projects that can be modified simultaneously).

Yes, I have a GoogleDrive account

Does the file contain imported mesh bodies?

Yes, but I'm having the same extreme slowness problems on projects where there are none imported.

Do you have any unresolved problems highlighted in red or yellow in the timeline?

Yes, as you can see from the screenshot, I have 2 in yellow. But I know that on other projects I've left some in red and yellow without any repercussions in terms of slowness.

Does the file contain large, complicated sketch patterns rather than low-cost feature patterns?

No. I have some simple projects and others that are a little more complex, as you can see on the left of the screenshot. Whatever the project, the computer struggles in the same way.

Are all the sketches fully defined?

No, most of the sketches I've made are not well constrained.

Does the CTRL b command return any errors?

Yes, all small objects are always close to the origin.

Thanks for the model. I can immediately see what is taking so long. Your second feature is a Convert Mesh to BRep feature. That feature alone takes 14.5 minutes to compute on my Macbook Pro. There is no need to keep that as a parametric feature unless you plan to ever go into the Mesh environment and modify the source mesh. I suspect that will never be a requirement for you. If not, you should be able to convert that feature to a "DM feature", and the design should be much more responsive. I also noticed that there is a Move feature that takes 3 mins to compute. I will try to see what I can learn about that.

The other thing I noticed about this design is your reliance on Body Move. While Body Move certainly has its place, in general you should probably consider making all your bodies into Components, and use Component Move instead. I'm not really sure why "Déplacer11" takes 3 minutes to compute - it appears to be a relatively simple move of 3 bodies. But, that is the next problem feature. "Déplacer15" takes 15 seconds to compute, and then the features get pretty quick to compute.

For the conversion from mesh to BRep, you can, indeed, convert that to a Direct Modeling feature (Base Body), and remove the origin mesh. However, because that changes the identity of the bodies, there are a lot of failures that result, so I'm not sure how useful the attached will be, except to point out that we've removed 15 minutes from the compute. It looks like the file is too big to attach. If you are interested, let me know, and I can share a link to it. As I said, with the number of errors, I'm not sure it will be much use to you

Finally, I noticed that the original meshes were pretty simple:

If it were me, I would just use Create Mesh Section, Extrude, Fillet, Hole to reverse engineer these parts. In the time it takes to do a single compute of the Mesh to BRep, I'm willing to bet that I could produce a native Fusion design that matches those meshes pretty closely.

This design is not too complex. If you use a couple of those techniques, there is no reason that this cannot be a very efficient Fusion design.

I did not download the file as you didn't use OneDrive or GoogleDrive, but I can see from the images that it is full of unnecessary rubbish.

Rest assured that the issues you are experiencing can be resolved through logical modeling practices.

Can one post a "yeah, me too - me too!!!" here?

Ever since I was FORCED to "upgrade" my Win 8.1 to Lose 10 my desktop PC has been reduced to a USELESS reminder of the 1980s -- and I say FORCED precisely because it was Autodesk's INSISTENCE that if one wanted to run Fusion 360 one HAD TO RUN Win 10 or 11.

Now, not only is it dog slow in GENERAL, it's absolutely USELESS trying to run F360: it takes SIXTEEN MINUTES just to fire it up to get to the blank startup, without trying to load any work!

Now, hot new iron this is NOT, but it's a respectable i7 with 8 gig, which USED to run F360 just fine (for anything I did). Now it can't get out of its own way -- it takes so long to do anything I have to click on something to initiate a task, and WALK AWAY to go do something USEFUL while the machine STRUGGLES with whatever.

Pretty sick, I say.

@pale.writer We would certainly like to work with you to understand what could be happening here. We can start with the 16 minutes launch.

1. Go to task manager and make sure Fusion is not running
2. Restart machine
3. Go to add/remove programs
4. Select Fusion 360 - Modify
5. This will launch the Fusion service utility
6. Run the RESET from here
7. Now launch Fusion 360
8. If it takes 16 minutes let is run through it
9. Now go back to Service utility
10. Run gather system info
11. This will generate two zip files

Can you please post both the zip files in here?

In addition, would help to know that you have picked up all the Windows OS updates and also ensure that your graphics drivers are up-to-date.

I've attempted to do my homework, which resulted in F360 only taking 10
minutes to load this time, at step 7. I noted stages:
1st splash screen sat for over 2 and a half minutes, then
@2:45 got a different screen with a sign-in button, which I clicked
This eventually brought up an actual signin screen on my browser, @4:15 but

an actual login option did not appear until 4:54.
@5:20 there was a full-screen splash of " F Autodesk Fusion 360" but no
controls
@7:10 the view control cube appeared in the upper right of the window
@8:00 a small dialog appeared titled "About your Fusion 360 Documents"
which took me almost a minute to read and click "OK - got it"
which took another minute of "(not responding)" clocking before:
@Anonymous:05 it seemed to be done presenting the app in all its glory.

So I left it running (doing nothing) while I went to the "Service Utility"
to collect the system info files,
BUT - by 20 minutes in I tired of waiting (had other chores) but by the
time I returned (@34:00) it had the two zip files.

Now to figure out how to get them to you? I'll first TRY to attach them in
this automated email RE, but that seems a stretch?

PS - I see the email did show up, after I initiated the post here (WITH the zips, that did NOT seem to come along with that email).
Anyway, sorry for the redundancy, but it's not going to overload the system, I'm sure.
Also, I was able to find a graphics driver that seems newer than mine, so I'll go ahead and (try to) update that, while I'm "resting."
