Hi,

I've created a DXF in Corel Draw - bezier nodes are more accommodating making workflow quicker on my parts until

I learn Fusion better.

The issue I'm trying to solve:

After using the DXF to trace (using the line tool), I am unable to delete the underlying DXF without getting error message.

I've tried two approaches.

1. New sketch-line tool-click on DXF - trace. When using this, any attempt to delete the DXF gives me an error stating I have deleted my sketch plane and need to "redefine" it. However, right clicking on my sketch, selecting redefine sketch plane, then does NOT allow me to select anything on my screen at all. (plane, background, sketch, etc.). I am also unable to do this PRIOR to deleting the DXF.

2. Before making the sketch - I add a step where I define its plane. I then use the DXF to trace on top of. If I try to delete the DXF afterwards, this time I get an error message that says "this feature is referenced by other features in the timeline".

Both of these conditions tell me the "sketch plane is lost"...

Should anyone be curious - the reason I am re-drawing the DXF is because I am unable to assign the cutting processes in the Manufacturing tab, with the DXF... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Thanks!

You can select your DXF sketch as a toolpath easily if you expand the Browser and select the sketch directly.

Thanks John,

Appreciate the quick response.

I think you are addressing - the issue noted at the end of my question regarding processes (which the program will not allow me to click on the DXF for).

I am still hoping to determine how to delete the original DXF file without loosing my plane, or finding a means to re-assign my plane for my sketch before deleting.

Can you supply a typical DXF that you are trying to trace?

Absolutely. I am including two files. 1 is the DXF with my trace over it. One is the raw DXF.

My goal is to be able to output a G-code file for my milling machine.

My initial attempt, I simply imported the DXF, added desired holes (as the circles on my DXF did not turn into holes when extruded), and extruded. This appeared to work - until I tried to create the tool paths and was frustrated to find I could not click on anything when assigning items like the drill. I next attempted to rebuild the DXF drawing by sketching over it after importing. That's what the .f3D file is. You will see the DXF is still there - but I can't figure out how to get rid of it without losing my design plane.

You are correct, the interior holes do have some issues. The video will explain what I did to get an independent sketch. During the video when I did the Intersect command, I forgot to point out that I removed the Project Link check as indicated in the screen capture. Model is attached.

John - I've attempted a few times to walk through these steps exactly as you do them.

Something is still not working for me.

Steps:

- import DXF - works

- Draw new circles using 3 point circle - works

- Surface extrude (10mm) - works

- Create offset plane 5mm - works

- Create new sketch on offset plane - allows me to pick the bodies.

However - when I finish that sketch - my screen does not look like yours.

I do not see a shape with many points - but rather with only 4 large points.

If I try and delete the bodies as you do - I am told that they are referenced by other features...

I've attached a few screen shots to show.

Any thoughts on what might be happening with my program to cause these issues?

Thank you.

Can you please attach your model that is failing you. Pictures do not allow me to see what you are doing.

Edit: My guess is you are forgetting to remove the check from the Projection Link box in the Intersect Dialog box. This is at approximately 2:25 in the video. You model is needed to confirm what you did.
