Generate path pattern through command/script

I'm trying to write a script for generating a pattern along a path programatically with a script/command sequence.

I've not much experience on it, so I'm not sure which are best commands to use.

I see in addition some potential problems looking to manual execution:

1) How to equally space feature along unknown pattern length?

2) How to determine path length to use?

Any help please?
