Thanks for your reply.

I am talking about 2D engineering drawings (right click on the component and select generate drawing). Sorry if I am somehow misusing this terminology.

I have gone back to some older models and tried to work with the associated drawings, and these seem to work, so my issue appears to be limited to certain models. Are there any specific features that might be causing the issue that I need to look for? I have several components that were copied over from other models and then modified. Could this be somehow causing an issue when I generate the drawing?

thanks

Hello

I know this has been a know issue since there are multiple help pages on this. I have the most up to date version of Fusion 360, I have updated my power settings to high performance, I have removed and performed a clean reinstall of my graphics drivers but I still am experiencing crashes every time I work on drawings. For the past month or two I am limited to about 15 minutes max in drawings without a crash. Often it crashes as soon as I attempt to create or open a drawing. This is getting really hard to manage... Are there any other suggestions out there? Sometimes I am able to submit the error report, but usually I just get the semitransparent screen and spinning wheel until I force the program to close. The performance is usually fine right up until the point that it hangs up.

Thanks

In the process of copying the components from a different design, my timeline got really messy with lots of errors. I have to admit that I am still learning how to manage these things and I still don't really understand the correct way to copy components to a new design. So, based on my efforts so far, I suspect this issues are causing the drawing to fail. My question now is this. The model still works despite the just in the timeline and I am otherwise done with it. I've learning my lesson for what to watch for in the future, but as for now, I am completely lost trying to figure out how to correct these errors. In fact, I think my efforts have only compounded the problem. Is there a way I can just erase the timeline and just have a solid model to create my drawing from? Right now, there is at least one component that absolutely won't complete a drawing without crashing.

You can right click the top component in the browser and select do not capture history but I'm not sure it will make much difference to 2d drawing.

With the timeline you should try fixing errors as soon as they are created as it's easier if you know what caused the error. Don't know if you can share the designs, if you can share them when you run into problems for advice.

Thanks again

Just copying the component and moving it to a new design allowed me to create the drawing without trouble even with the timeline it carried over. I think my issue is that I often reference sketches to features on other components, so when I move or copy a component everything breaks. I guess I shouldn't do that. I will pay better attention to fixing errors as I go. I honestly hadn't realized it really mattered as they have never caused any problems before.

Checking the crash report, this issue could happen on specific dataset when create drawing from it. Can you please share the 3D design with us, which lead to crash when create drawing from it ?

@kevin399ML Some advice for future projects. Have you read the Rule #1 post? Create self contained components as much as possible if you think you'll need them in another design. Better still create standard components in separate designs and just insert them.

If you need to create a component in an assembly keep references to other components to a minimum, turn off all the auto project options in preferences and only project what you need. Don't sketch directly on the face of other components, create a plane to sketch on, it will be easier to fix when a reference is lost. Don't use Create Components from bodies as that's will cause problems if you copy paste to another document.

Some other ways to get a part from another design. Derive will let you grab a component from another design and keep it linked so edits will propagate from the source design. Another option is you can copy a body from one design and paste it into a Base Feature in another. This way you get a part without any history like importing a part from the insert menu parts suppliers.

As for not fixing errors. Fusion will run slower in large projects if there are errors\warnings and edits will be unpredictable so not a good idea.

Thank you Mark

This is all very helpful. Much of your advice I have already started to pick up, but some of your suggestions are new and will be very helpful. I started using Fusion with almost no 3D modeling experience and this forum has been a great resource in my learning.

HOWEVER, my issue with drawings crashing has unfortunetly not resolved. I was fully prepared to take the blame with my poor workflow, but even with very simply models I am still finding it almost impossible to make a drawing. For example, I needed to add a component to the model i have been working with. Instead of adding it to the existing model, I started a new design. This is a very simple simple component. I inserted a screw from mcmaster which will need slight modification. The head diameter needs to be reduced which I did with a single simple sketch and an extrude to remove outer part of the screw head. Even with no other files open in fusion, I can't create a 2d drawing of this part without crashing fusion. I have tried many times and it crashes every single time.

The file is here: https://a360.co/3PVlJcF

If its helpful, I am using win11 with 16gb ram and NVIDIA Quadro Pro P620 graphics

I just did a clean re-install of the NVIDIA driver that I downloaded direct from Autodesks recommended driver resource. but this didn't make any difference. Below is the Fusion graphics diagnostics info (I don't know what most of this means, so let me know if you see any issues).

Any idea why I still can't get drawing to work without crashing. I have been using Fusion for several years with no issue until about 2 months ago. It started as an occasional issue and now it is so prevalent that I can't even get this simple job done. I have been trying to get prints to the shop for over three days now and simply can't get fusion to generate the drawings....

[GPU Information]
GPU Device: NVIDIA Quadro P620
GPU RAM: 2048 MB
GPU Driver API: DirectX 11.0
GPU Driver Version: 536.25
GPU Driver Date: 06/12/2023

[Graphics Effects Settings]
Anti Aliasing: Off
Ambient Occlusion: On
Object Shadow: Off
Ground Shadow: On
Ground Reflection: Off
Selection Display Style: Normal
Transparency Effect: Better Performance

[Limit effects to optimize performance]
Off

I am also facing crashing after the latest update. Everything ran fine prior to updating. Forced to update my Mac Mini, immediately faced issues. Moved over to PC and couldn't continue working on my file until updating, so I did. Went from no issues to constant crashing with no report or log.

Hi Liang

Please see my subsequent comment in this thread. I provided a link for a very simple model that is causing me the same trouble. I absolutely cannot get fusion to create a drawing of from this model without crashing. This is the case with most of the projects I am working on currently, although some other will work at times and not at others.

I have work that needs to get finished and I simply can't do it with fusion any more. I have literally had to start hand drawing prints to give to the machine shop. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Kevin

Hi Kevin,

Sorry for late response. I am just back from vacation. I can create drawing from your file. Do you have a chance to try it in other PC, Does this issue only happen in one of PC, or all PC?

Please check if there is any pending update in OS, and install the pending update, such as VC Redist below.

For what it's worth, I had no issue with the drawing generation on that part on my Windows laptop. Hope you've got it sorted by now!
