Displaying extruded dimension of an extruded component

How do I display the dimension of an extruded surface in a 3d view. Use case:

1) I sketch a rectangle 80mmx90mm

2) I offset the rectangle by 2 mm

3) I extrude the sketch by 80mm

4) I select the sketch and select the show dimensions option

5) Go to 3d view , i can see the height and width of the component

6) I can measure the component's extruded length using the inspect function

7) How do I display that extruded length in 3d view

As I am trying to design something that has several components assembled along its length and I want to describe the finished item in a single 3d view. I find i am having to do a manual sketch to keep track of things.

Yep, side view sketch with driven dimensions, at the end of the timeline,

or Create a Drawing.

Another way is to make the sketch first and then extrude to a sketch object (like the endpoint of a line). This would allow you to edit the dimension in the same manner as the previous two.

This is a better work around. I like this way better, it keeps the project cleaner. I am surprised, for what is otherwise such a powerful and intuitive tool, being able to do this as a display option on an extruded object is not a standard feature. Maybe in some future version.

It’s not a popular request,

my suggestion, creates clutter, and duplication, of existing data, hence the question.

@JoshuaOrr solution is very common, and most of us would be using that workflow, and then hiding the sketch, is the default for single use sketches.
