Dear Community,

I am new to Autodesk and currently struggling with splitting an obj Body using a custom curve. Could somebody point me in the right direction what the best way to achieve this would be?

I'll try to explain what I'm struggling with and append a screenshot below:
I imported an obj file into fusion (the surfboard) and would now like to separate the rails (the edges, about 4cm deep) from the rest of the model. What I did so far was to create a sketch from the outlines of the model and move that sketch to the position where I would like the cut to be. I also extruded that sketch so that I would get a plane that I could use to cut the body. You can see that status in the screenshot. But that's where I'm stuck, if I select "modify->split body" I can't select the body. I'm guessing it's because it's a obj mesh. Converting the model to T-Splines doesn't change anything…

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Your model is attached. If you turn off the visibility of one or the other solid body you will see it is split.

if that is the case, then importing a mesh file and hacking around on it is about the worst process for learning Fusion 360. mesh files contain non-native 3D data. Sometimes workarounds and even valid Workflows exist to model with meshes, but you are much better off starting with the standard Workflows with native geometry.

then you can progress to the more advanced topics.
