Just updated to the new version this morning, and am confused. I created a new Hybrid design, like I always have, and created a new component in that design. It brings it up as a new External component - what is that all about?? I have to 'finish external edit' before going back to another one in that same design, and the other components are barely visible at all, VERY light gray, while editing the new one. HOW do I get back to the old way??

For my existing designs, same happens when I create another new component, though all existing ones in those files acts the old way. WAY confusing for no good reason!

Here we go again...

There is no way to make it default to that, that I can find. So, yet another set of mouse clicks needed to make it do what it used to do, every time I make a new component!

That doesn't make sense does it? If your default is internal you can only create a component. I guess not many people use the insider version because you'd spot this bug in a few minutes of using Fusion like this.

In the previous update, hundreds of users asked you to remove the unnecessary pop-up window for selecting the design style. At least there, you could just click outside it and immediately start working. Now you’ve made it even worse — you have to click through multiple options just to be able to use Hybrid design at all.

Who the hell is responsible for this? Is there really just one person at Autodesk making decisions about changes like this? I find it hard to believe that an entire team can’t properly think through and test such major changes before releasing an update…

This option still exists and is still set to internal, however when creating a new component in a hybrid design it defaults to an external linked component regardless.

It can be changed to "part" for an internal component, but this is one more step you need to do for every component you create now.

I am commenting to also complain about this issue.

Under my Assemblies settings, I have "Create new components as..." set to "Internal", but when I create a new component in a Hybrid design, the default setting is "Hybrid" and wants me to save it as an external design.

I would like it to at least remember my last selection so I don't have to keep selecting "Part" every time I want to make a new component.

Also, I am responsible for typing up procedure and orientation guides for my company, so PLEASE stop changing the menus unless you have a REALLY GOOD reason to. You guys obsolete ALL of the free training resources you guys have available for your software when you do that kind of stuff (including your own!)

-Scott

Sounds like they are giving you job security then. If the menus never stop changing, then you never run out of work!

I second the request to "remember last selection" though. I don't know why it's defaulting to creating an external component. 95% of what I use are internal components. The 5% is what why I'm using a hybrid file. But I don't want the 5% to be default, especially when most of that 5% are bringing in pre-existing components and not new ones for this project. So I virtually never need to create an externally linked part from within a project.

I agree. When they developed the Hybrid modeling it was fine. Adding a component became a little more of a hassel but doable. Now with this "Assembly References" it is adding layer upon layer of information that is unnecessary for small part designs. I like the ability to add components to keep things well organized ---BUT THIS makes it way too complicated. If it isn't broken don't fix it!!!

I have the same frustration, however a possible workaround I found was to

1. Go to assemble

2. pick new component. When the New Component box comes up...

3. Change the "Type" from Hybrid to "Part" (attachment 1)

This makes a simple component without all the external stuff. (attachment 2)

I am a simple hobbiest who uses it for 3D construction and I relize that Fusion is really made for manufactoring; however like so many things software designers have a tendency to want to add and add making things too complex sometimes.
