However, I have to manually place the symbol in the note each time I create a drawing. It would be nice to have this already placed at the template level, to help standardize the note and minimize the risk of missing information when creating new drawings.

FEATURE REQUESTS: FUSION

Hello,

I have a few feature requests for Fusion I believe would help make it feel more complete. I actually have a lot of requests but I'll stick with these few to start.

I use Fusion professionally along with Inventor, Plant3d and Navis. Personally I really like using Fusion and if I can do/make something in Fusion I will choose that over any other option. I just like the workflow better. Anyway I make a lot of drawings and this is actually where I dislike Fusion. While it's not the worst, it does need more attention.

1) Creating Title blocks. My biggest issue is the tool set for creating them. I don't understand why the entire or at least most of the design sketch tools are not present in the creation space. Simple things like making a line is infuriating. Not being able to input the length of the line and having to drag it to a length you can not make accurately at all is a poor implementation choice. So my request is consider making all of the design sketch tools available even if you don't think something like mirror or pattern tool is unnecessary I'd beg to differ because I wish they were there on may occasions.

2) Custom Sketch Symbols; I'm so thankful for this feature because it helps a lot but I think we can improve it. So same as the title blocks the entire design sketch tools need to be available. Not having the ability to set the dimension or angle (not to mention if the angle says 90° it's usually not) not having the center rectangle, etc.. It really limits the ability to make A+ quality symbols. The tools are very limiting and just make me sad.

2.1) Make leaders optional for the Sketch Symbols. I do really like the option for "Labels" within the symbols, I made some title bars to place under my view and being able to edit them like this is really great, but this is a case where I don't need it to have a leader attached. While still possible to not actually use the leader sometimes you see a little dot in the symbol that doesn't necessarily need to be there. Not a huge issue but an option to enable a leader or not would be great.

2.2) Reordering the symbol list. Maybe nit picky but being able to reorder the list would be helpful.

2.3) Making the Symbols universal vs. being tied into a drawing template. Its great that at least I can import the symbols from another template but perhaps a better way would be to have a separate symbols template that can be added to new drawings and templates. Then if the symbols template is updated with new or revised symbols then it will change across all drawings. I'm pretty sure most people/firms use the same symbols for all drawings and it rarely changes. If different sets are needed then like drawing templates we can create multiple symbol template sets to suite those needs.

3) Changing the opacity of items in the drawing browser. One thing I would love to see it the ability to set the opacity of components and bodies in the drawings. There have been a multitude of times where making something in front of an object you want to dimension semi-hidden because you want that object in view to show relationship to or maybe something in the background you want less visible to make the foreground pop.

Hi,

First off, thank you so much for your detailed feedback! This will go a long way to helping improve the product moving forwards.

1 - Understood and I have logged this. One question on dimensioning, is this just in reference to dimensioning a line whilst creating the line like you would in the design workspace? You can dimension after the creation if that helps?

2 - Understood and logged

2.1 - I'm not sure on what you mean by this? Would you be able to send a screenshot to explain please?

2.2 - Understood and logged

2.3 - So if symbols are added or created in a template then they are visible and can be imported if you cant see them in an older drawing. Are you hoping for a different kind of template, almost like a symbol only template separate from your drawing template? Is the main goal to be able to access new symbols in old drawings without having to import?

3 - Great idea, how would you expect this to work? Only in shaded mode?

Thanks for your ideas keep them coming! 🙂

Sorry for the late reply.

This is great, I do hope these can be implemented because it would really save some time and make things easier

1. I'm not sure how to explain it. The creation space for the title blocks, sketches and custom symbols is just weird and it doesn't feel finished. I just think it should behave like and have a similar tool palette selection as the Design Sketch. Don't get me wrong here, I love Fusion and its come a long way and I do believe it will be the de-facto cad solution in the future. But... Drawings in Fusion feel like an after thought, like... "oh dang we forgot to add a section to make drawings."

Simple things like drawing a straight line in the drawing sketch, title block and symbols is more difficult than it should be. Example, even though the little info tag by the mouse when drawing a line says 90° but it could be 90.8° and it is clearly visible that the line isn't straight but it doesn't snap like it does in the design sketch. I feel like I should be able to hit 'tab' and enter 90, hit 'tab' again and enter the length just like we can in the design sketch.

In summery the title block, sketches and custom symbols need more freedom with a wider array of tools to help us create what we see in our heads.

2.1) I included a "Screenshot-075827". In the screenshot, highlighted in yellow is the title bar/view info bar... that I made to detail the view in the drawing. As you can see when the symbol is created it has a leader attached to it. Its just not necessary in this instance. Highlighted in blue is the way I'm using it. As you can see I don't have to attach it to anything and so the leader arrow isn't there but an option to have no leader would be nice.

Also now that I think about it, another option to place a fixed point on the symbol for the 'Leader' would also be a welcomed option. On how that might work would be to have a 'leader node' tool in the sketch space to place a point or points where the leader will be attached or can move to depending on where it's placed. In some cases I have a couple of symbols that the leaders can end up in some funky places and it looks weird. In the "Screenshot-081617" highlighted in yellow is how the leader came off the symbol and I drew a line highlighted in blue on how it could have been. Just like with the Text Leader, being able to adjust line so it can break at an angle to get around stuff would be nice.

2.3) Yes... essentially. If the symbols were a completely separate template/data base that could be imported into a drawing and drawing templates so it could be a universal thing between them. This would make things way less complicated for multiple users/firms because importing the symbols from it's own template/data base makes more sense than importing them from a drawing template.

3) In AutoCad there is a way to color/shade objects and this drawing was done in Advanced steel or Plant3d I don't know which I just pulled it from our BIM. Personally I would like it to work in all modes not just shaded. I actually don't use the shaded mode for much if at all. But this is the way I imagine it to look like. I would add a right click option to components so it would shade all bodies in that component. And a right click option to shade bodies so we also have the ability to further break down a component to either a shade of light gray (which would probably work for everyone) or a color picker with a few spots to save a custom color along with a few defaults like black, light gray, and maybe red and blue etc...

Thank you.

A few other things I would love to see in drawings would be...

1) User defined Bubbles

I understand that automatically being able to bubble things from a custom table is impossible. But having bubbles that can be user defined would be nice. I have been doing this with the custom symbols but its kind of a pain. Let say I select the custom Bubble then I get a popup to define the bubbles label (Also being able to define the size of the bubble would be nice too) and then I can place the bubble on parts I want to label with that bubble.

1) A dynamic compass symbol. Sometimes a direction is needed. If I make a drawing of a platform or something, the field installers may need to know where North is.

There should be an option for ISO and a 2d view. This compass should have an arrow and be able to set it in the direction NSEW or FBRL, and then the iso directions

The arrow Label should also be user defined for North/Front or Custom.

Sometimes I want the arrow to define what is the front face of something is vs where north is.

This compass should also be resizeable

Examples of how I use it, I just made a couple of simple symbols. But I would like something nicer, and using pictures for the symbols doesn't work great either, there is always an outline around pictures I'd rather not see.

Thank you!
