Permanently disable the "What do you want to design?" popup?

I am looking for the option to permanently disable the "What do you want to design?" popup that appears when I start a new design in Fusion. With much respect dev's, I realize it was just released with the latest update today, but for daily experienced professional users - it's really annoying. I just want to open a default design canvas, rather than presenting me with design choices every time.

At the moment, there isn’t a way to permanently disable the “What do you want to design?” popup, but there are a couple of ways to make the workflow quicker and less intrusive.

What you can do today

1. Set a default to reduce clicks
You can set a default design type so the dialog is pre-selected:

Go to Preferences, click your profile icon in the top right
Choose your default design type, for example Hybrid or Parts and Assemblies

This won’t remove the dialog, but it turns it into a one click action instead of requiring a choice every time.

2. Dismiss it immediately
When the dialog appears:

You can click anywhere in the main Fusion workspace to dismiss it and reveal your default design
Or press Ctrl+N on Windows, or Cmd+N on Mac, to immediately create a new design without interacting with the prompt

3. Why this screen exists
The “What do you want to design?” screen is part of the recent intent driven design update. It’s meant to help users choose between a structured Parts and Assemblies workflow or a more flexible Hybrid modeling environment, especially for newer users.

That said, your feedback makes sense. I’ll make sure this feedback is shared with the team.

I toally agree ... 90% of time in don't need a new part, I need to open projects ... this popup thing looks like a neebie toy software ... If I want to crreate a new something I just create a new tab and that's it ... I dont need to be treated like a children

I too dislike this popup. It seems the choice it is presenting is "would you like some abilities, or all abilities?" with a 'hybrid' part design. I'm not a power user, but this question seems pointless to me, since I've never felt limited in my design options, or my ability to assemble components from different files. Why anyone would choose anything other than 'hybrid', giving them all the abilities inside Fusion, I'm not sure.
Being able to just open fusion and begin a design was a beautiful thing, but now I have to go through this popup first. Not just when starting Fusion, but any time I wish to begin a new design. It's terribly irritating.
There should be a checkbox in this window that says "make this my default design choice" so it doesn't have to be dealt with more than once.
I hope this is not indicative of more changes coming to the environment, making users choose between design types in order to have access to certain tools.

Who thought this was a good idea? Maybe they should not be allowed to make any decisions about Fusion for a while. Let them think about what they have done. NOBODY wants this. Get rid of it.

Agree, not a great feature at all, lame and annoying to be honest. I love simply just clicking in space and making it go away. Why not give users the option in preferences, so we can chose what we want??

I’ve been discussing this in another thread, but wanted to reply here as well for visibility:

Fusion has an incredibly broad user base, from occasional hobbyists opening Fusion a few times a month, to companies with large teams collaborating on 10,000+ part assemblies. Creating an experience that works well across that entire spectrum is no small feat.

As a generalisation, guided external workflows (parts and assemblies) are essential for anyone working in teams or building larger assemblies. Historically, Fusion has supported these workflows, but they were not elevated as first-class experiences. This often meant working around defaults or fighting the system to stay aligned with best practices.

With that context, I want to address the request for a permanent “Don’t show this again” option on the What do you want to design? prompt.

This has come up during our user testing over the last few months, and it has been seriously considered. I / My Team ultimately decided against it, not because we want users to be forced into an extra click, but because removing the prompt would work against our longer-term direction.

I can’t share too much about future plans yet, as they’re not committed to a public roadmap, but the vision is for this prompt to become more than the six tiles you currently see. From that perspective, a permanent dismissal would likely be a short-term fix that creates more confusion than it solves.

We fully understand that many users are perfectly happy working in Hybrid and may never feel the need to change. It’s a flexible, powerful, and often delightful environment. For those users, the downside today is either one additional click when creating a new document, or a mental model shift (for example, using Ctrl+N, which bypasses the prompt entirely).

For users who want to build assemblies in a distributed, collaborative way, however, this update makes that workflow dramatically easier and more accessible.

As with all experiences in Fusion, this will continue to be evaluated. Based on our current development plans, keeping this prompt is the right decision. If we later determine that offering a preference to suppress it improves the overall experience, we absolutely can, technically it’s trivial. The challenge is more experiential (for example, how users then discover other document types like electronics or drawings), but it’s all solvable.

A couple of direct responses to comments in this thread:

@Zoltan3D — “90% of the time I don’t need a new part, I need to open projects.”
There’s a preference called Show Home tab at startup which I’d recommend enabling. That flow is intentionally more focused on opening existing work rather than creating new documents.

@fr4gged — “Why would anyone choose anything other than Hybrid?”
This often comes down to the long-standing confusion between bodies vs. components, and the need for the well-known “rule number one.” If you know how to use Hybrid well, are working solo, and your assemblies are within a certain size, it can be an extremely efficient way to model.
That said, in collaborative or large-assembly scenarios, Hybrid makes it much easier for mistakes to occur — such as bodies being created at the root level when they should be components. The guided workflows reduce that risk significantly.

Thanks for all the thoughtful feedback, it’s appreciated, and important as we continue to evolve these experiences. We have been testing this for a while on the insider forum, I'd encourage anyone to sign up to the insider program if you want to be involved in beta testing in the future.

EDIT: So, if a lot of people would still use that popup, they would NOT select the 'dont show again' and continue to use it! For those of us that dont need or want it, give us the OPTION. We are not asking for things to be permenantly set one way or the other, just for an option to set it the way we would like to use it. If that desire changes later on, especially if you come up with a better way for us to work, then we can un-set that option. What you are saying is that everyone MUST do it with your workflow. There are many other options in Fusion, please let us have this one!

This new feature is not helping with my workflow. It is actually slowing it down and I would like the option to disable it.

Why you didn't build the option to disable it to begin with is sad.

Telling us your future plans are not ready, will just add to the frustration,

Revert to last weeks version until they are (maybe) ready, you did not see all of us requesting this overhead.

Bring back common sense. Amalgamate the 3 or 4 current threads.

Thankfully, you have no effect, (yet), on the Open file routine.
Let us tick a Do not show again box, and that can be reset when this new overhead has some actual functionality.

yep so stupid, i dont work in a structured manner, i do a lot of proof of concepts, make some sample designs, rough outs, and then decide how i want to go about it, but to lock into a certain way is not the best idea.

for example, oftem i do a PCB design and load th ecomponents on the PCB first without scematic, just to see what size and shape or limitation i need in the design..

TLDR
If you would like to create a new document without seeing the prompt, the keyboard shortcut CTRL+N or CMD+N does this.
Just remember to set your preferred default document type, as this is what will be created.

Why this change?

There are many users today who are perfectly happy working in Hybrid. There is nothing wrong with Hybrid for ideation, assemblies of a certain size, or when you are working on something isolated and not collaborating with other users.

However, when users want more than Hybrid (internal modeling), this was previously possible but much harder to follow and much easier to get wrong. That experience needed to be improved.

We see issues daily where a body exists in the root of an assembly and cannot be constrained or joined, where two engineers need to work on the same assembly at the same time, or where a component designed in one assembly needs to be reused in another assembly.

This feedback was the primary driver for this change. I want to be very clear that a significant amount of due diligence went into this decision. We were under no illusion that for Hybrid only users this adds one extra click when creating a document, or requires a shift to using the keyboard shortcut instead.

We fully understood that trade off, but we also had to provide a much better solution for users where Hybrid or internal assemblies were no longer the best way to get the job done.

Why not just add the preference being requested?

I have covered future plans in previous posts, but the key point here is that having Parts, Assemblies, and Hybrid available together was the critical mass required for this prompt to exist at all. Now that it does, other teams are beginning to use it as the entry point for additional workflows. Without this prompt, there is no consistent access point for those new experiences.

Historically, Fusion had seven different ways to create a new document.

First load
Closing the last document
File New
Home tab New
Left click on +
Right click on +
CTRL+N

All of these resulted in different options and different experiences.

This new prompt is about consolidating those paths into a single, consistent experience. Every path now shows the prompt, with the intentional exception of the keyboard shortcut CTRL+N or CMD+N, which is designed for users who want to bypass it entirely.

That shortcut effectively serves the use case of a preference, without fragmenting the experience for future workflows.
With such a broad range of users, we try to be very deliberate about tradeoffs and where we introduce change.
