Can't select face for "split face" tool - Fusion

I have an assembly where everything is constrained properly. Each part was created individually and brought into an assembly. I am trying to do load cases and need to use the Split Face command. when opening it I cannot select any faces in the assembly under "Faces to Split". This is the case even when i change the split type to anything else. I am at a loss of what to do.

Hi,

All components are linked (chainsymbol) and can therefore only be edited once the link has been removed using “Break link.”

Faces can be split under Simplify in the FEA environment, but I have never tried this with externally linked components.

Yes this ended up being the issue. After breaking the link it started working
