Simple test model, a round pipe 20 feet in diameter made out of concrete with layers of steel on inside and outside. I extruded (cut) a 3' hole through one side of the pipe surface. Simple and easy to do. I need to export this to a step file for use in scripts developed in-house to convert STEP files to CSG. The script generates the cells needed for the pipe and fills the rest in with void (air in our case). Some background, we have been doing this for months using FreeCad and it works perfectly. We just recently switched to FreeCad for a commercial job we have and actually I like it a lot better but, for some reason exporting it using STEP isn't producing the same result. The conversion utility cannot handle the step code generated by Fusion. I am guessing it is a configuration issue with how the export is being done. Most all programs we use including FreeCad has export to step configuration parameters, but not Fusion. This is a real problem for us and we need a solution fast. Going back to FreeCad is not my first choice at all. Does anyone know anything about how Fusion exports to STEP, like what standard they use etc?

can you share a sample Fusion F3D model here? I'm not 100% sure, but I think that Fusion exports AP 214 STEP data.

That's likely the problem, FreeCad exports in AP242 Draft International Standard. I have attached a test file, cannot publish the actual configuration. It doesn't matter, this blows up our conversion anyway.

I will have the translation team respond, as they are likely to have a more accurate answer about what type of STEP is generated.

The main issue is "Most all programs we use including FreeCad has export to step configuration parameters, but not Fusion.“ We need to confirm two things:

1. Can Fusion export STEP AP242? I will invite Fusion team to answer this question.

2. If Fusion can, whether or not STEP AP242 exported from Fusion contains these necessary configuration parameters.

Could you please share a STEP file exported from FreeCAD and what configuration parameters are what you want to keep so that I can have a good understanding of your issue?

Thanks

Phenix
