sheetmetal making two bodies in one component?

hi everyone

i am trying to make 2 bodies in one component. do I have to make another component (I have tried but it kept going back to original ccompomnant)

MAIN COMPONENT

You can have two Sheet metal bodies in a Component, but only one flat pattern or unfold.

You should probably avoid creating sheet metal bodies in the main component and create components for each part. Have you started with one body then spit so you ended up with 2 bodies in one component?

A workaround to copy the body into a new component is use boundary fill to create the copy. So create a sheet metal component, use boundary fill to copy one of the bodies into the new component then use Convert to Sheet metal on the copy.

Here both bodies in the main component.

And here one body copied into its own component.

If I understand your Design Intent - we would still need to add hinge feature (either as a separate component or bend a piano hinge into these two components with a wire component connecting them).

Not sure if you want the latches too.

Do you want the cut out "windows" in the moving lid component too?

the changes you made are spot on and the piano hinge being folded into the design is brilliant!

I will want to add holes for the screen, is that just an extude cut? ,

on the sides for where tubes come out I want to make it more closed in and then do a cut out, is it best to extend this flange then do cut outs?

also can a clamp be folded or just make an extra tab for one?

yer I just threw in the sketches no measurements yet as i'm not finalized on sizes.
I thinking just put on bolt on hinges instead of piano hinge (much easier to replace)

can the sides judst o from bottom flange them i can cut what i need gone?

Communication is best carried out in the open forum rather than private message for the benefit of the community.

Blue lines and white dots in a sketch should keep you awake at night.

No red lock symbol indicates that the sketch is not fully defined.

Visually, we can probably assume the geometry is centered symmetrically - but we should not be making assumptions.

Underdefined geometry does not automatically adapt to edits and edits are almost always needed (unless you are perfect).
