Hello Sujay.

I started to create a video of the process for you, and while doing so I stumbled across the solution.

When I imported the Mesh, I hadn't noticed that Fusion was complaining that the mesh had errors in it. I repaired the mesh in Microsoft's 3D Builder and imported the mesh again. This time there was no error reported. When I Converted the mesh, Fusion only create one solid body (albeit with more triangles than before). I then created my sketch to thicken the base, and created a hole which did not go right through the base. This was created without any issue. So the problem all along was that my original STL file had errors in it. Repairing these fixed my problem.

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

Ron Ventura

I am using the non-commercial (free) version of Fusion.

I imported a mesh, then did a Modify -- Convert Mesh. This created to Solid Bodies, which I then combined into a single body. This body is essentially a hollow box, but each face is made up of several triangular segments, which I've been unable to combine (maybe a question for another time, unless it's relevant). The inside face of the base of the box has more triangles than the outside face.

I then selected the triangles making up the base of the box and extruded it 4mm to thicken the base. I want to create screw holes on the bottom of the box. I first tried a "Hole" and then also tried putting a circle on a sketch and doing an Extrude -- Cut. In both cases, I got an error message saying that Fusion could not find a body to cut, unless I set the distance to more than the total thickness of the base (5.191mm). If I set the distance to 5.191mm or less, I got the error and could not complete the cut. If I set the distance to 5.192mm or greater, the operation completes successfully.

Thanks in Advance for your help.

Ron Ventura

Its difficult to understand without video or data.

Can you please attach mesh file (.stl or .obj) and the design that you've completed in Fusion? Additionally, could you provide a video of the process?
