Issue with Resizing a Rectangle in CAD – Top and Bottom Move Symmetrically

Hello, I need some help with something that seems really simple, but I just can’t figure it out and I’ve been stuck on it for hours. I’m modeling a screwdriver holder for my desk. Since I didn’t know the exact dimensions, I started with a 2-point rectangle, extruded it into 3D, and then added other features. Now that I have a rough model, I want to scale it down.

I know there are two options:

The easiest way would be to remove material using the extrude tool, but I don’t want to do that.
The second option, which seemed simple but where I got stuck, is to resize the rectangle.

I split it vertically into two parts and aligned them to the center. I adjusted the left and right sides individually, and now I want to adjust the height from the center as well—but it doesn’t work. Both the top and bottom edges move symmetrically, and I don’t understand why. I intentionally didn’t use a center rectangle at the start because I expected this issue, but I didn’t think it would happen with a regular rectangle. I didn’t set the top and bottom edges to be equal, only parallel, so I really don’t get what’s causing this. Thanks in advance!

My plan was to create a cross inside the rectangle, constrain it with right angles, center it in the sketch, and then adjust each side individually, simply put.

Who is "he"? Some sketch constraints are applied automatically if the condition is met. You can prevent these automatic constraints by holding down the CTRL key (Command) key when sketching.
