Hi,

This was working, but now it is not after the latest upgrade. I used to be able to send files to be 3d printed, to my simplify3d application, using a mac. Now, I cannot do this. It says, "

Fusion 360 does not have sufficient privileges to launch the Print Utility. The Print Utility must be manually launched once in order allow Fusion 360 to launch it. Please launch Print Utility from the Applications menu."

But I can't find any print utility or applications menu. I've restarted both apps and rebooted and the problem still exists.

Also, Fusion 360 is hanging all the time, with the beachball. It is extremely slow now.

Please advise. Thanks!

Wendy

Hi Wendy,

When you launch the 3D print command, are you able to select the print utility to "custom" and set the application to simplify3d? For the slowness, can you pelase run the graphics diagnostics (Top right hand corner Help -> Graphics diagnostics) and see if there are driver updates? Is the slowness in any particular workflow or is it general slowness for every operation?

Thanks for your quick response and things to try. I tried all of your suggestions and the beach ball slowness went down to 30 seconds. I rebooted too. But I realized something else too, I only get this problem with one model. There is something wrong with that model that is causing the problem. I'll just start over. It was a model that I was working on when the upgrade happened.

And yes, I was using custom and specifying simplify 3d, and it worked before the upgrade. It works now on other models, just not with the problem model. I will redo that model and see if that makes it all better.

Thanks a whole bunch!

Wendy

Hi Wendy,

Good to hear that this is not a generic issue, however we would still like to investigate why the one model is having this issue. Would it be possible for you to invite me to your project that has this model using my email raj.kumar.ilanchelian@autodesk.com? You can also share the f3d file using the share public link.

1. Right click on the model in the data panel and select Share public link

2. Selec the option to all ow download

3. Send the share link to my email ID.

You also mentioned that you were working on this model when the update happened. Where you working on this model in the "Offline mode" and then continued working on it after the update?

I also can no longer 3D print directly and the functionality went away a couple of updates back and I've just been saving to .STL and opening my 3D print software (Cura) manually and then loading the .STL file. Fusion360 previously launched Cura directly. I'm running Window7. Here is the application launch line needed to launch Cura:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Cura_14.09\python\pythonw.exe" -m "Cura.cura"

You could save me and probably others a few extras steps if the direct launch was restored or if you can tell/show how to make the "Custom" option launch with the above line.

Regards,

Gary

Hi Gary,

We have identified the root cause of the Cura issue. There were some changes that were made in the recent releases of Cura that we had to react too. Unfortunately Cura reverted all those changes in their latest release a week ago and that in turn broke the Cura/Fusion link. We are actively testing a fix for this issue. I will keep you posted on when we will be able to send out an update.

Hi,

Unfortunatly, the issue is still present here, when I try to output 3d print stl to Cura, I get the "Fusion 360 does not have sufficient privileges to launch the Print Utility. Please launch Print Utility from the Applications menu."

It makes no difference whether Cura is closed or already opened.

Running the latest version at the time of post of cura ( 15.04.3), fusion (from mac store, 2.0.1909). Is there any special steps to execute iin either cura, fusion or OSX to get this working?

Regards,

Jean

This looks like it's not solved. i am getting the same error. I gave permission to Fusion to control the OS (os 10.12.4) from the preference menu, but it keeps telling me to manually launch the print utility and that then after it will be able to use it, but no change I keep running inthe same problem. This may be that the changes from the OS (Mac OS 10.12.4) as now all apps are sandboxed and so you need too ad some key to the info.plist off the project (fusion 360) and then before requesting to open the app you need to check/ask permission from the user. unless Fusion is trying to use the a URL Scheme then this is different I think. I am an iOS dev, so OS X and iOS have some difference but works pretty much the same in many regards. So this would be my clue here is that Fusion is not asking the user permission to open the "Print Utility". So any external application Fusion tries to launch fails in the same way.

Hi @nissaba

Thanks for posting! I have a few thoughts on this issue.

Does Fusion fail to launch any external program? If you go to post process a CAM toolpath and enable the "Open NC file in Editor" flag, will Brackets open? If you select a different default text editor for this purpose using this procedure, will it launch from Fusion?

What if you select a custom 3D print utility in Fusion using this procedure? Will the other software open through Fusion?

If other programs such as Brackets, Cura, Netfabb... will open through Fusion, this may be an issue with Print Studio. Unfortunately, we no longer support Print Studio and would recommend moving to Autodesk Netfabb for your additive manufacturing needs. You could also try using the free Cura sofware from Ultimaker. You could also always save out an STL from Fusion and open it manually in Print Studio.

If Fusion is failing to open any program, please attach your diagnostic log files to this forum thread and I am happy to have a look! Feel free to let me know if you have any questions.

@Anonymous

Sorry to hear this is causing trouble for you. It doesn't appear to be a general problem for all users, so it might be a problem local to your user/machine and your permissions/settings. I'd like to help you here to get connected with Fusion and Meshmixer, and also find out if there is a new problem in Fusion we don't yet understand.

Looking at the warnings, did you follow those instructions? It sounds like you have the same issue reported earlier in this thread. So I'm wondering if the instructions are failing, or if there is a new problem. I cannot reproduce any problems in my test macs, but I have full admin rights, and also allow use of apps from other than appstore, so I might not see the problem as you are.

This is my security setting, is yours set like this?

Thanks,

Hi Phil,

I have admin privileges and setting to instal all apps. I have opened Meshmixer (latest version) manually but is still does not work. It used to work in the past…

See attached screenshot.

[cid:D05A30AC-E45D-4270-B923-6352FE17269A]

Hi,

Have you tried to launch manually MeshMixer and then export from Fusion? I have the same problem with Cura, and when Cura is already launched it works.

I am on mac.

Bye,

Jean
