Touch screen gesture controls no longer work after latest update.

Hi all.

I have a Microsoft Surface Pro 4 and yesterday I was using Fusion 360 without any issue. I could rotate, pan, and zoom in using my fingers. Today, I opened Fusion 360 and it said that I was now up to date. However, when trying to use my fingers to rotate, pan, and zoom, I found that Fusion used my input for dragging, just as if I had used a mouse instead. I no longer have touch controls. I've checked and rechecked the "enable gesture support" option but nothing. Restarted the computer, restarted fusion, same issue persists. Does the new update remove touch controls? I hope not because it was fantastic how simple it was for me to naturally do my CAD work. Has anyone else had this issue and if so, what fixed it? If it is removed though, I will have to look for different touch-friendly cad solutions as I don't want to keep losing features every update.

Hi,

We found a bug with gesture navigation on Windows devices which results in pan/zoom/tumble gestures not working in the latest Fusion update. We did not have time to fix it before this update.

I apologize for the inconvenience and we are working to get this fixed for the next possible update in mid December. If we do any updates before then it might get fixed in one of those.

They claimed it was fixed with an update but it never worked for me. Since Autodesk removed functionality and never fixed it (in my case), I have thus moved on and am back to using SolidWorks.

Oh, that's really lame. Yeah, I can't use gestures with my windows tablet. I was really hoping that I'd be able to so when I'm out and about and don't have my mouse that I'd still be able to have a good work flow. Without the gestures I won't have any workflow, haha.

So, how do you like the Solidworks' touch gestures? Do they work well for you?

Sorry to hear this is still a problem for you. The bug is fixed, I tested it myself on Surface Pro machines.

To be clear- The only thing that should work is pan/zoom/orbit. Picking tools and doing modeling workflows with dialogs/manipulators, etc. is not supported. To run a Windows touch screen device you must have a stylus or attached mouse/trackpad to make picks and clicks. It's always been like this.

So please be clear, what is your expectation here, and what are you finding?

Yeah, I have a stylus with my machine so all I'm looking for is the pan/zoom/orbit tools, but they don't work on my machine even though I have the box checked for touch gestures. Any suggestions?

As far as I know, Solidworks does not have touch controls. Fusion implements updates to the main application, whereas Solidworks has yearly iterations with different features/fixes. As I rely heavily on software stability in my work, I found that because of this issue, my usage is better taken care of through Solidworks (lack of updates) as I won't risk losing functionality while I work.

What is your hardware spec? (machine model, GPU, OS, etc.)

Yeah, I even deselected the gesture box and restarted then re-selected the gesture box and restarted and nothing.

That is why.

We have not fixed gestures in Wacom, it is a separate set of drivers than Surface uses. I will escalate that bug report.

What level of support are you looking for? For instance, on Surface we allow pan, zoom, orbit only. All picks and clicks are done with a stylus or mouse. Would that work for you?

Yeah, I'm just looking for pan, zoom, and orbit. I would use my stylus for the rest.

For updates in the future it would be awesome to have a complete workflow without a stylus, but for now having pan, zoom, and orbit would be fantastic.

Unfortunately, no.

We are investigating what it would take to implement it. After that it would take several weeks to make it through our release pipeline.

I need to ask the team that owns it for an update at this point.

I'm using a Wacom Intuos Pro. Right now I use a stylus. Works pretty good most of the time, but zooming is awkward. Usually end up reaching over for the scroll wheel on the mouse, which messes with the flow. And some times I can't select things, particularly double clicking on edges to pick loops.

I like the idea of navigating with touch gestures, but would need to be able to select and do all the other things you do with a mouse, without having to pick up the stylus. Like most others, I keep one hand on the keyboard, and the other on my pointing device. switching between touch gestures and using the stylus would be too cumbersome.

I've experimented some with the touch settings on the Wacom, and can do most things using just the Wacom's settings and gesture navigation turned off in fusion. Just can't find a setting that will tumble. with gestures turned on, just using one finger tumbles the scene, but holding the shift key down makes one finger act like a regular mouse pointer. very strange.

Also, a little off topic, but closely related b/c it's about navigation. My Pan, Zoom, Orbit shortcuts are set to Fusion, solely because you can do a single click to reset the orbit center. I would really like to not have to hold down the shift key in order to orbit. changing the short cut style to solidworks allows orbit with the middle mouse button alone (no shift) but to change the orbit center you have to: 1- right click somewhere off the model 2- select set orbit, then 3-select the orbit location. very slow process. Not conducive to leaning back and having a look around with one hand while drinking coffee with the other.
