Mac trackpad zoom gesture engages very delayed or not at all

Doing a two-finger pinch on my Mac's trackpad is supposed to zoom in or out in Fusion 360, but I noticed for a while now that this particular gesture is very unreliable. The zoom either happens with a long delay (seconds, not milliseconds) or sometimes it doesn't engage at all.

It is very noticeable and extremely distracting and annoying.

Below is a screen video that documents the delay between when the system starts sending the touch events vs. when Fusion 360 reacts. Make sure to display it in 1:1 full size to see the Terminal window properly.

I just started trying Fusion 360 last week and have noticed this, too. I'm using a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014) on macOS 10.12.2 with Fusion 360 currently at version 2.0.2604.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention! I have logged a bug with our development team (FUS-29567), and they will be working to remedy this issue.

In the meantime, I noticed that you have shadows turned on. Perhaps turning off shadows and limiting effects to optimize performance (in the Graphics Diagnostic dialogue box accessed from the question mark in the upper right hand corner of Fusion) will make this more manageable for you to work with!

Thanks for logging the bug.

For what it's worth, I tried to disable shadows etc, but that did not seem to make any difference. It also seems that the complexity of the model has no impact. A very simple model behaves exactly the same as a more complex one as far as this issue is concerned, so I don't think it's a performance problem at all. Sometimes the same gesture in the same position will work right away, sometimes it will not start at all.

I have the same experience and I don't believe has anything to do with shadows etc.

Fusion 360 is built on QT as far as I know and I am wondering if this is a hard to track down 3rd party issue similar to some. of the timeline visibility issues that have plagued the Mac version for a while.

I experience slow zoom in and outs. I'm on a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014) running OS version 10.11.6. Is this still a lingering problem for Mac users?

No unfortunately it is not, it is still driving me nuts, and I keep pestering the team once in a while when a new update is announced that introduces new features but doesn't address this really distracting usability issue with basic user input not working.

That's very unfortunate. I can't believe such a grating issue that so directly impacts the core UI does not addressed urgently.

This is absolutely jarring and rage-inducing every single time I use it, for what is otherwise such a great product. And I'm saying this as a paying subscriber/customer.

The detailed changelog for this update references this issue (I think) as the first list item under the Usability heading. (I haven't tested it yet.)

I just checked that first item you mentioned in the detailed release notes, and unfortunately no, that's not the same issue.

I'm glad that one was fixed, but the one documented here is still 100% reproducible, zoom just flat out doesn't work most of the time. It's very clear from my video above that the events are posted by the operating system, but Fusion 360 doesn't engage properly.

It hasn't been working for a long time now. You should really make your engineers and QA team use Fusion 360 on a MacBook Pro with just the trackpad for a couple of weeks, and I can guarantee this bug would be fixed in no time, because it's really completely unusable and infuriating in its current state.

Thanks for posting. These issues can take time for development to address and may be unique to your system - I use the Mac trackpad everyday (along with our QA staff) and do not experience the lag issue.

FUS-29567 (brought up in this thread originally) has not yet been resolved. You may be able to improve performance by switching to orthographic camera rather than perspective. We will be continuing to investigate this issue. I will pass the video attached to your last post along to the dev team - thank you for providing it.
FUS-36422 - this issue should be resolved. Can you reproduce it using the steps below:

Make sure your Mac dock is set at the bottom of the screen and to hide when not in use.
Open Fusion 360 and pull the Window down very close to the bottom of the screen (so it will be covered when the dock is shown).
Make a few clicks in Fusion 360.
Hide the Fusion window with the CMD+H keyboard shortcut.
Make a couple of clicks in any other application.
Hover over the dock to show the Fusion 360 icon and click it.
Select some geometry on the model. Observe the first selection works but it becomes "stuck" - you can't change the selection after the first one goes through.
Click anywhere in the grey area for the design timeline.

FUS-36950 - this issue is also not yet resolved, but should also be improved by using Ortho camera.

IMO it does feel like it's designed to be "three-button, scrolling mouse-first" software with last-effort support for multitouch trackpads. It's in a weird space right now in development where it's being used by lots of enthusiasts who don't have wide access to specialized peripherals (6DoF / 3D nav) or even mice in some situations, but the plan is clearly for it to be used by professionals.

It feels like the largest part of the userbase is not the audience it's being designed and developed for.

I did not receive a reference number because I couldn't provide reproduction steps. However, in my post, I included a clip (~1 min) from an Autodesk University video which exemplifies the bug in an on-stage demo. You seem to be aware of some of the nuances related to focus issues on macOS. Can you associate the issue in that clip to an existing reference number? Feel free to reply in my original topic for continuity.

This is the exact problem for me too!!! It totally cripples F360!
