@Anonymous Welcome to the Fusion forum! Sorry to hear about the difficulties installing the Nastran solvers. Can you upload a copy of your installation log file here? They may contain some information about the nature of the issue.

The solvers should get installed whenever you go to the SIM environment for the first time (and create a study). Are you getting an error message when you attempt this?

Please let me know if there are any questions.

I'm gonna need a second pair of eyes on those log files. I took a look but wasn't able to pinpoint anything specific. In the error report you submitted, it says you're running Windows 8, are there any pending Windows updates to install?

Have you tried eliminating all unnecessary background process, like anti-virus software? Sometimes a good test to eliminate background processes is to start the computer in safe mode (with networking enabled). The easiest method I know to do this is in the msconfig command:

1. Use the Run window. To do that, simultaneously press the Windows + R keys on your keyboard or launch CMD.exe
2. Then, write msconfig in the text field and press Enter or OK.
3. In the Boot tab, check Safe Boot and Network
4. After restart, kill any unnecessary processes in the Task Manager (CTRL + SHIFT + ESC)

5. Retest the procedure

I haven't heard this issue reported widely, so I think there may something really specific on your system that is leading to this. I will circle back after I get any updates on my side.

Let me know if this helps! I look forward to your reply.

Thanks,

I have the same problem.

I've was conducting static load simulations Wednesday and left the computer unattended overnight. It got a bluescreen and a colleague rebooted it. As I got back to work yesterday, I restarted Fusion and saw that an update had been applied. Tried the same simulation as before (expecting the same result) and the Nastran solver wouldn't install. I also saw that the Study GUI had changed in the update.

Haven't been able to do simulations since, and I've cleared the cache with no effect.

I'm on W10 anniversary. The bluescreen may be unrelated, but the resulting reboot definitely caused Fusion to update Thursday morning.

-Marc

Edited: @Anonymous Have you performanced a clean uninstall and re-installing yet?

There's an automatic uninstall tool here.

If that doesn't work, can you try going through the manual process, here?

I suspect that there is something stuck that is not being cleaned out correctly. Hopefully this process will resolve it.

Okay I have a suggestion hot from development that might help.

Let's try to remove only the Nastran solvers. To do this (Close Fusion 360):

1. Launch command prompt

2. Use the following command to change the active directory

CD %localappdata%\autodesk\webdeploy\meta

3. Next use the following command to uninstall

uninstall.wsf -p uninstall --appid e7f9cb70b7034d379c60bc2486571de8

4. You should see uninstall window flash really quickly and go away.

5. Now re-launch Fusion 360 and retest creating a simulation.

6. Fusion 360 should reinstall the Nastran solvers

This is a new procedure for me, so please let me know if there are any snags.

Thanks

hi this problem is very frustrating I ran the command and It didn't work I think is my computer's problem and It works on my other less powerful laptop.

@Anonymous Thanks for the update and for posting an updated version of the log files. The real head scratcher in the latest log files is that they are reporting that the Nastran solvers were successfully installed.

I'm wondering if anti-virus software may be quarantining a Fusion 360 file necessary for the Nastran solver to run. Could you try adding an exception in your anti-virus software for the installation directory of Fusion 360? If you let me know which version of anti-virus software you're using, I can try to find some more specific instruction.

The directory I'm looking to add an exception for is:

C:\Users\***\AppData\Local\Autodesk\webdeploy

After adding the exception it may be helpful to do one more uninstall and re-install.

If this doesn't help at all, I will need to enlist a subject matter expert to take a closer look at this issue. I'll need to find out who the best person for this is and circle back with you.

I hope the above suggestion does help and I apologize for the frustration. Please keep me updated on your progress. I am happy to help if you have any questions.

Thanks,

@innovatenateI was referring to the "hot off the press" Nastran reinstall procedure you had been suggested by a dev to fix my solver Nastran install issue with Fusion 360 (see above). Used the cmd prompt strings, a window popped up, which also followed by a dialog box saying that Fusion was already up to date [ok, cancel], I still went ahead with [ok] and it completed the install process.

Hi Autodesk,

We are unable to run the Nastran Solver in local mode.

Our error says,

Fusion is unable to install Nastran Solver due to network issues.

Please try again after you are on a stable network connection.

Could you advise how to install the Nastran Solver.

We followed the developer fix, uninstall but are presented with the same problem.

I've come here to say, I just had the same issue. I used the solver with one program opening, It crashed when I was adding a bolt mesh to the simulation. Upon reopening, it fails to "Install". After uninstalling nastran solver manually, the first time I opened fusion, it pulled up with some errors that I couldn't understand, but it works now. Also, It says I'm using the newest update up top in green as if it had installed between openings.

I am also having local simulation issues, My problem is that when I attempt to do a local solve an error pops up stating "Fusion is unable to install Nastran Solver because a software update is currently in progress." As far as I can tell there are no updates running, and I am running the current version 2.0.4854
