Very regular my Fusion 360 Mac client freezes after creating a (revolute) joint. The dreaded colorful beachball appears, the CPU load for Fusion jumps to 100% and stays there. The memory footprint increased with about 10 Mbyte / second and the only solution is to force quit the client. Fortunately Recovery works, but the last few steps of the work are lost.

The error does not appear at every creation of a joint, but may appear random. This already happened 4 times in the last few weeks, and I filed error reports. The last one is error report CER_146499821 .

I run on a Mac Mini (late 2012) with 16 GB RAM and running MacOS Sierra 10.12.4.

Do you already know if this is a known issue? The error report confirmation promised a mail when the problem is fixed, but I would like to know if there some progress.

I'm sorry to hear that- that sounds very frustrating! Can you please attach a copy of your file so I can take a look at it?

Dear Kate,

Please find attached the file I was working on when the freezes occurred. The last time the freeze occurred I had done 4 or 5 joints successfully and when clicking OK on the next one, the client app froze. Although I had similar problems on other files, but they contained very similar models.
I am a relative novice user, so the design may not be very optimal.

Please treat the content confidential.

With kind regards,

Gerard Goorden

Hi @Anonymous,

Thanks for the design! I wasn't able to reproduce the crashes, though. It's possible that it's a graphics issue- can you please check to make sure there are no pending system updates and that your graphics drivers are updated? If you could also post an image of your Graphics Diagnostic, that would be helpful as well. Thanks!

Also, a suggestion about your design- are all of the components intended to move? If there are sections with several parts that don't move relative to each other, you can position them where you want them with the Move and/or Align commands and apply a Rigid Group instead of individual joints, which will cut down on processing.

Hi Kate,

In my experience, the crashes occur very randomly. Yesterday it was twice in succession, but I can also work for longer periods without problems.

I very truthfully update my MacOS system, so the graphic drivers are the most recent.

This is the Graphics Diagnostic (text from the clipboard, because the text on screen was clipped obscuring some info and the window could not be resized)

[GPU Information]
GPU Device: Intel HD Graphics 4000
GPU RAM: 1536 MB (Integrated card)
GPU Driver API: OpenGL

[Graphics Effects Settings]
Use high-resolution graphics: Off
Anti Aliasing: On
Ambient Occlusion: On
Object Shadow: Off
Ground Shadow: On
Ground Reflection: Off
Selection Display Style: Normal
Transparency Effect: Better Performance

[Limit effects to optimize performance]
Off

As far as I am aware, I didn't change any of these settings from the default.

About the design: nothing should move at all, it is supposed to be a complete rigid device. But I found out that, when using rigid joints, it was very difficult to align the many components. But here my relative little experience in Fusion probably plays a role. I will educate myself on the Align command to see if that fits my needs better. Thank you for the advice.

Gerard
