Hello ppl, why do I always have to download materials ? I had a few favorites because that was the only way I did not have to download each time I want to render some model but now they have disappeared also.. (I`m talking about the "downloadable materials", the normal one are there all the time)

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for posting! It is unfortunate that your "Favorites" have not been maintained. We don't download all materials during the initial install process because it would make the installer take too long - instead you have the option to download materials/appearances once Fusion has been installed.

Can you clarify the behavior you are experiencing a bit? Firstly, are you referring to Materials or Appearances in Fusion 360? I ask because I noticed that every Material was available for me (and a few colleagues) in Fusion 360 - the option to download materials was not present because all of the materials were already available, even though I have not downloaded any materials. However, there were many Appearances that I would need to download to use. Both the material and appearance dialogues are accessed by right clicking a body or component in the browser and selecting the proper option.

Next, when does the favorited material disappear from your favorites? Is it immediately dropped after the Materials dialogue box is closed but the file is still open? Or is it dropped after the file is closed and a new file is opened? Or is it after the Fusion application is closed and reopened?

Unfortunately, I was unable to recreate this behavior on my end. One possibility is that a filepath got crossed during some update or when you were installing Fusion - perhaps performing a clean uninstall and reinstalling Fusion will resolve this behavior.

Hopefully this helps! Please let me know if it does not or if you have any questions - I am happy to continue troubleshooting.

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for the response! Favorited appearances/materials are cached locally and available for offline use. I have shown and explained how to back up and then load a cached Favorites library in the screencast below.

When using this technique, remember to not change the name of the Favorites back up folder - the name is linked to the dialogues in Fusion and changing the name will break the link and result in errors. I believe that keeping a backup appearance library and loading it to Fusion after an update using this technique should allow you to maintain your Favorites folder.

Hopefully this helps! Please feel free to let me know if you have any other questions - I'm happy to continue assisting!

It would be nice if the Fusion installer had a checkbox we could check that would download all the materials on install.

Since I have had so many issues with Fusion auto-update I do clean uninstall and re-installs of Fusion regularly. Having a backup of materials is nice but it opens the door to other problems if you have to move it.

I agree - having the option to download all the materials and spend a little more time on the install process would be a good option. I would recommend posting this idea on the Ideastation!
