Hi @utekcnc,

Hmm, that is strange. Just to check - are you just using the desktop icon for Fusion? I'm curious if maybe this is what is breaking when Windows updated. Does right-clicking and selecting Run as Admin work? One other thought too - if you open Task Manager, are there multiple Fusion 360 processes running? If you restart your computer that should resolve any stray processes interfering with Fusion opening.

Thanks,

Thanks for posting! Another customer had this issue yesterday and was able to resolve it with a clean uninstall and reinstall - unfortunately my first recommendation would be doing so. It is possible that the Windows update made changes in a shared folder that Fusion uses to launch. Using the automatic clean uninstall utility tool should make this an easy process for you and choosing to maintain your local cache should mitigate the risk of losing any work.

Hopefully this helps! Please let me know if you have any questions - I am happy to assist.

Thanks for the response! Because Fusion 360 does use files and folders in shared directory locations, Windows updates can effect Fusion 360 by altering the file-or-folder paths. This can usually be easily resolved with a fresh install of Fusion, but it can be a bit of a pain! Fortunately, the automatic clean uninstall tool should make this process easy.

I'm guessing it's safe to assume I should save all of my files to an external folder? gonna do a clean install now, as i have the same issue after the update. Says the software renderer is being used and that my graphics card may not be fast enough. Highly doubt that as this is a new computer.... LOL

edit: Or is all my stuff saved to the server? still new to fusion (only been using this for about a month)

Hi @Anonymous,

All your data should be backed up to our A360 servers as long as you were working online. You can verify this by checking here. Regarding your graphics driver - that does seem strange. Do you know what graphics card you have? Also, within Fusion 360 if you go to the Help menu and select Graphics Diagnostic - what is it reporting for a GPU device?

Hi @utekcnc

Unfortunately, the current solution to issues caused by Windows 10 updates is to perform a clean uninstall and reinstall Fusion. You can make this process easier by using the clean uninstall utility tool, which will give you the option to maintain your local cache. This will minimize the risk of any data loss while wiping Fusion from your computer.

I believe this issue is occurring because the Windows update makes some change in a shared folder that Fusion uses during launch and normal operations. We have also seen some issues in which the desktop icon is not updated during a Windows update. Before uninstalling Fusion, please attach your log files to this forum thread and I will have a look and pass them along to our development team - this will help us learn more about the cause of the error you are experiencing.

We are aware that that doing an uninstall every time Windows updates is not ideal - I apologize for any inconveniences this has caused!

I currently have a case open with another use and this is my #1 suspect. (That anti-virus software is interfering with the normal operation of Fusion 360).

Can you try adding exception to the setting in comodo to exclude the installation directory of Fusion 360? Please see the below links for more information:

Hello, I'm from the far future of 2021

Four years later and windows updates still break Fusion 360.

You would think that after almost half a decade they would fix this.

Still, the only solution to fix this problem is to completely uninstall fusion, and then reinstall it.

I personally recommend anyone who is tired of the lack of stability, support, and general common sense to check out Free cad, plenty of support, actual stability, and no company behind it to put profits above usability.
