Hi Paul,

Thanks for your comments.

I haven't tried unplugging the 3D mouse - it is such an integral part of my using Fusion 360 !!

However, I will give it a try and let you know.

As for sharing a design, I'm more than happy but it happens on every design where I create and simulate a toolpath - here is a current design:

http://a360.co/2qWRuoy

Regards,

Andrew

Hi,

I've been using Fusion 360 for over a year now and am loving it but I have a continuing issue with crashes before, during and after a CAM simulation. I am on an iMac running OS X 10.10.5 (Yosemite) and the latest Fusion 360 (2.0.3034). I don't have any other programs running at the same time and the only 'unusual' part of my set up is a 3D Connexion Space Explorer mouse.

Usually the crash will not occur during the actual simulation but either immediately before or after the simulation, e.g. when I close the Simulate window or move the simulate timeline back to the beginning. The crash is never repeatable and relaunching Fusion 360 allows me to continue. The crash also occurs at different times - rarely never during a 4-5 hour sessions but usually between 1 and 4 times during a 4-5 hour session. I have a sneaky feeling this is a memory leak or similar problem, possibly linked to the 3D mouse. The actual crash just freezes the screen, brings up the spinning beachball and finally the error report. The most recent report was CER_148356718.

If I can help get to the bottom of this, I would be very keen.

Regards,

Andrew

Hi @andrewbarton

Thanks for posting! I had a look at your crash reports and it looks like the CAM team has logged an issue for this behavior (CAM-4998) and are currently investigating this issue. We appreciate you submitting the crash reports! I actually noticed that a screencast you created of this issue was attached to the report.

I did not see any comments about a SpaceMouse, but peripherals have been known to cause issues? Doe the crash occur if the SpaceMouse is not connected? What if you uninstall or update the peripheral drivers?

If you'd like to share a design in which you have observed this behavior with me I am happy to add it, along with any comments you may have, to our development teams report on this issue.

Hi @andrewbarton

Thanks for sending the file over! I will pass it along, but have been unable to trigger the crash on my end for now. Out of curiosity, what settings do you usually use for toolpath and stock when simulating CAM toolpaths? Knowing this may help diagnose the issue.

Let me know how it goes with the 3D mouse! We appreciate your input!

Hi Paul,

Thanks for your continued involvement.

The settings I usually use for toolpath and stock when simulating CAM toolpaths is:

Tool: Holder, transparent = off

Toolpath: Mode = Tail, Points = off

Stock: Mode = Standard, Colorization = Operation, Material = Mirror, Transparent = on, Stop on collision = off

I've found that panning the model with the 3D mouse during simulation causes the screen refresh to slow considerably (but that is to be expected, I would have thought!!)

Regards,

Andrew

Hi @andrewbarton

Thank you for providing your preferred simulation setting - while everything seems pretty standard, they may help our development team reproduce this issue. We appreciate your help here!

I would also expect panning or orbiting during simulation, particularly with a SpaceMouse, to cause some lag. Please do let me know if uninstalling the SpaceMouse drivers eliminates these crashes - peripheral drivers can interfere with the normal operations of Fusion from time to time.

Feel free to let me know if you have any questions!
