Hi

Every time I start Fusion 360 I get a message "down loading update" then almost immediately an update error.

In the log file there are a few lines with win error 2 can't find file (followed by a file path). Looking at just one of these, when I follow the file path in file explorer, the file is present.

I am on a desk top using Windows 10.

Should I re-install Fusion 360 or could it eventfully sort it's self out? Is re-installing likely to cause any issues.

Thanks

Nigel

Try killing rogue background processes related to Fusion 360:

1. Opening Task Manager (CTRL + SHIFT + ESC)

2. In the Details or Processes tab, find any process named Fusion360.exe and/or adcefewebbrowser.exe and select it

3. Manually end the Task using the End Task command

You could als try restarting your computer to clear any odd permissions issues?

Otherwise, try clean uninstalling Fusion 360 (select No to keep your cached data) and re-installing.

I hope this helps!

Thanks,

Here's some more information.

As said in my previous message, during streaming on installing Fusion 360 I get a "permissions problem" message.

The installation log is massive but near the bottom I see a "Permissions error 13 Permission denied". and a file path ---- AppData----FusionLauncher.exe. However, in the actual file there is an application "Fusion 360" but no "FusionLauncher" application.

Hopefully this info will help towards a solution, I would really like to get this resolved but for now available time is a problem.

Thanks

Can you share the installation log file?

My guess is that the streamer is looking for a file that may not be there or has been locked by another process. Did you try restarting the computer or temporarily disabling anti-virus software to see if it helps?

The Fusion360.exe and the FusionLauncher.exe are stored in separate sub-directories (not the same directory) in:

C:\Users\***\AppData\Local\Autodesk\webdeploy\production\

If you you see the Fusion360.exe, then you're in the wrong directory to find the FusionLauncher.exe.

The file could locked due to a 3rd party application like anti-virus software. One trick to diagnose interferrence from backgorund applications is to start Windows in Safe Mode (with networking).

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/fusion-360/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Diagnose-Interference-from-background-processes-in-Windows-using-Safe-Mode.html

You may have to temporarily disable anti-virus separately. Another option may be to add an exception in your anti-virus software's settings. See teh below link for tips on how to do this.

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/fusion-360/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Configuring-anti-virus-software-for-use-with-Fusion-360.html

Finally, you can try manually removing all files related to Fusion 360 (perhaps the automatic clean uninstall is not removing them all). See the below instructions.

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/fusion-360/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/How-to-do-a-clean-uninstall-of-Autodesk-Fusion-360.html

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any questions. I am happy to help.

Thanks,

One other thing that may be worth trying:

When you go to run the installer, try right clicking on the file and select Run as Administrator.

Thanks,

Hi

Thanks to your generous help I am back up and running. It's been frustrating but because of your help I have learnt allot.

I ran in Windows safe mode and left the anti-virus running and Fusion 360 installed and ran without any problems. As best as I can make out the problem seems to have been to do with Windows Security Service which appears to be disabled in the Windows Safe Mode.

FYI - Prior to this I had tried to install Fusion with the anti-virus turned off but got the same permissions error.

I am happy to share the Fusion Log if it's still of interest, what's the best way to do this? it's nearly 5Mb.

Thanks again, so very much appreciated, Fusion 360 is great.

Regards

John
