Hi Mark,

Thanks! Sharing a link to the model works well for providing our suppliers
(machine & laser cutting shop) the information they need, only wish I could
to the same with a drawing.

It would be nice to have the ability to allow my co-workers who work with
another CAD program (Proge CAD), to view, measure, and check
my dwg drawings. I have been exporting my drawings to pdf alternative to
dwg files, but the pdf file is static and inconvenient to work with.

Regards,
Johnson

Hello,

Why are all my vendors complaining that the dwg files produced by Fusion is garbage? The dwg files generated by Fusion are either completely blank or the dimensions are there but the 2d representation for the model is blank or missing information.

In addition to outputting from a Drawing, I have tried, exporting from model space; using DWG Trueview to convert the files to an older version of Autocad; saving as a dwg from a sketch. Nothing works.

Any advice or help would be appreciated.

Hi @fusion360broy,

Thanks for posting and welcome to the Fusion 360 community!

I'm sorry to hear that your DWGs have been getting messed up! To help me troubleshoot this, I am going to need a little more information. Are you finding that this is happening with a specific DWG or is this occurring with all of your DWGs? If it is only occurring with one (or a handful of) DWG(s), would you mind sharing the DWG(s) with me? We have a great article, linked here, that describes the various ways that you can share your designs to collaborate with others. For the purposes of troubleshooting this issue, I would recommend sharing a public link to the design. This will allow me to download and make modifications to the design while leaving it intact within your project.

If you export a PDF of the DWG does the issue still occur? Also, do you know what application your vendors are using to open and view your DWGs?

Thanks in advance for the information! Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Cheers,

Whoops, I thought your reply was an automated message going to a noreply
email. Not used to this Support Forum thing...

Essentially, this issue occurs when we send the dwg files to our machinist
or laser cutting guys (vendors), and they inform us that the dwg files are
unusable. Additionally, co-workers using other CAD programs, get completely
blank pages or show missing information ie lines for the model from dwg
files generated from Fusion360. I have tried converting them to older
Autodesk versions, and still same problem. The files will load fine in the
DWG viewer, but it is rather odd to ask other people particularly our
suppliers to install additional software so that they can view or confirm
dimensions form a dwg file that was created with Fusion360.

I hope there is a solution to this problem, and not just a case of Autodesk
not playing nice with other CAD programs.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Johnson

You can send your customers a share link to the 2d drawing so they can view in their browser. Just make sure you disable download because downloads of the 2d drawing will include the 3d model.

I only just read @mike.tessier post. The problem is the drawing information is stored in a way only AutoCAD can read, there have been many request for a neutral format DWG\DXF but Autodesk don't seem too interested, perhaps they want us to buy AutoCAD. Some people have had luck converting to older version and opening with Draftsight, DraftSight seems to be the only other program that has some capability of reading from the DWG drawing space.
