Hi @HughesTooling,

When you say "new", what timeframe are you referring to? I will check, but as far as I know, this behavior has not changed in at least a year, maybe more. But, you are correct, at one point in time, when sketching on a face, Fusion used to use face geometry for the origin/axis orientation. The problem that customers reported then was that the origin was not stable under upstream edit. If the face changed size, and you dimension to the sketch origin, geometry would move around. Sometimes that is useful, sometimes not. Anyway, we switched over to the owning component's origin under the assumption that it is a more stable point, with respect to the component itself.

I seem to remember a discussion a while ago about the origin in a sketch created by sketch on face. The origin used to be created at the centre of the face which was quite useful, especially on faces not parallel with the document construction planes. Now the origin is the document origin and that is not as useful if any use at all.

In the screencast I demonstrate how creating an offset plane gives the old useful origin and how the new behaviour gives an origin that's no real use. The old way it worked was far better and you could project the document origin in to the sketch quite easily, a lot less work than constructing the origin at the centre of the face the way it works now. File's attached.

Hi @jeff_strater

New might not be that new, just taken a while for me to remember to make a post about it. Thanks for the explanation, I guess the way it works now is more predictable for someone new to the software. I can still use offset planes to get the old behavior, hopefully that isn't going to be changed to match the way sketch on face works.

Thanks Mark
