There is no way to change the reference parts for the assembly in Fusion or A360? Is there is no way to change the filename in Mac Finder, import that filename into A360, then change the original reference file to that new file?

I am having difficulties importing sub-assemblies and parts into a SolidWorks assembly file using Fusion. My challenges come from the filename itself. The previous designer saved a number of reference parts with a semicolon in the filename. Fusion does not allow parts with invalid characters (e.g. semicolons) to be imported into a project. I know that Design Assistant exists for Inventor and can be used to change the name of reference parts, so I am wondering if there is a similar program I can use to change the name of the reference file (delete the semicolons...)?

Please help! Thanks

Hi @Anonymous,

I'm sorry, as far as I know the semicolon can't import to A360.

I think if you change the name using the "Pack and go" in SW, it will be easy..

let me know If you have further questions.

Many thanks,

Hi @Anonymous,

The assembly file relies on the part file so if we change the part file in Window Explorer, the assembly can't find the part file. Because the link between the part and assembly are broken.

Therefore we have to change the name by "pack and go" of Solidworks. If you change the part name in Explorer or Mac Finder, the Assembly file succeeds to upload. But the file you changed using Explorer couldn't be uploaded into Assembly file.

If you use the A360 website, the parts which have the semicolon in the name can upload. however, the assembly file couldn't open as well.

I also think about this.

1. upload the files have the semicolon (Let's call Semi-file) through A360 site.

2. Assembly file uploaded without the "Semi-file"

3. Insert the "Semi-file" into Assembly. (with "Insert into current design" X-reference)

But, the problem is we have to arrange the model to a previous position.

I'm not sure that would be hard to change the name without Solidworks.

let me know if you need more help

Many thanks,
