I want to create a cabinet with panels in a groove. I am trying to create a rectangle to extrude into a panel to fit into an existing groove. I want to use the corners of the groove cross section as two point defining the rectangle sketch. The plan was to extrude that rectangle down the length of the groove. I define the plane of the rectangle at the end of the groove cross section but instead of snapping to the vertices of the rectangular grove, the cursor remains free floating. I even tried creating construction points at the vertices, but they are not accessible when drawing in the sketch mode.

I could probably use the measurements of the grooves and the separation between the two grooved boards, but the idea is to use the existing components as reference points so I don't have to recalculate every thing.

Thanks!

I don't know if the attached project file will show the issue.

Try Sketch > Project tools.

You need to bring existing external geometry, into the current sketch - to be able to snap to these projected articles. Sometimes they are purple, sometimes invisible.

Try Thin Extrude after stream lining the amount of sketching.

Might help….

Yes, I see that now.

1) Even though I now can see the projected vertices of the groove cross section, the rectangle tool does not snap to them - ignores them.

2) The top of the panel mates with the top grooved board and the bottom of the panel mates with the separate bottom grooved board. I need to snap to the vertices of grooves of these two separated boards. There is no common surface and doesn't project to a construction plane that includes the top and bottom.

See attached image
