Minor bug: Cannot change sketch dimension parameter name w/o changing it's value

Once a dimension is created I often change the parameter name by changing the expression. See below syntax.

paramName = 100mm

The parameter name does not change when the value does not change. In previous version, now more than a year ago, this used to work.

This is a minor bug: As a work around i would change both name and number, then change the number back to the correct value.

Issue on both Public release al well as Insider release. Tested on Windows 11 and Windwos 10.

Hi Günther, I'm aware that is another solution/workflow. However it is much more cumbersome in many cases. I'm sure this is not the intended behaviour.

@CGBenner it depends.

Using the parameters dialog box is one way to create named parameters.
Naming parameters in command dialogs (like sketch dimension, extrude, etc.) also is one way to create named parameters, with the extra benefit of applying those named parameters at the point they are created.

In other command dialogs, this workflow performs as expected. But there is a slight difference with sketch dimensions. The problem here is only with sketch dimensions that are added as the user draws the lines and enters values while the line command is running.

The problem does not happen with sketch dimensions that are applied after the line is drawn. These command dialogs act like all other command dialogs and allow you to rename parameters during edit workflows.

I might have been mistaken to think this is a bug. It could be as-design, since the commands are actually different commands. (dimension while line command is running vs dimension command itself is running). I'll pass this on to the parameters team to take a look.

Thanks for looking into this. There seems to be a little discrepancy in our findings. On my system the parameter name does not change if the dimension and sketch line are drawn simultaniously, nor when the dimension is placed afterwards. See below video.

In your first example, it was just a line. This is different. It's a rectangle.

The problem happens in your rectangle example because you first entered a dimension while creating the rectangle. Just like the line example, try creating the rectangle without any dimensions. Then add dimensions. Then rename them.

This means the problem happens when dimensions are added while sketch geometry commands are running.

Thank you for your suggestion. I tried that; the result is the same.

In my first example, the line, I didn't create the line simultaniously with the dimension. I've created the dimension afterwards.

I've created a new video with two line. After I placed the lines I add a dimension and make them both 50mm long. Then I change the names:

On the first line I change the parameter name and value. The name changes correctly: d1 becomes AAA.
On the second line I change the parameter name, but use the existing value. The parameter name does not change: d2 is still called d2.

This example is yet again different than the original example you were offering. It just means there are many ways to achieve this result. Thanks for finding all the cases. Please post every example you run across that is a unique workflow.

(I've logged this and am recording all the cases you bring up to use as testing criteria. Ticket FUS-152593)
