Oh I see, The trick here is to activate the project component ( first thing in the browser ) and then copy/paste new

If it was done in a different steps it won't work

Hi,

Being very new on Fusion 360, my question might be obvious to others, but...

I have a component with a sketch on one of the planes. The sketch is actually a text, which is eventually extruded.

Editing this text by double clicking the sketch element in the timeline (activates the ketch) and then double clicking on the text object, works like a charm. As expected and as documented.

Then I copy/past new this component and try to edit the text. However, double clicking the text object doesn't do anything and I'm not able to edit the text. It just doesn't get into the edit text mode.

To me it feels like a bug, but as said, what do I know as a newbie 🙂

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Darius

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for posting! Welcome to the Fusion 360 community.

I tried to recreate the issue that you have described and was unable to - I was always able to edit the text in the copy/pasted component by double clicking it after entering the sketch. I have shown my workflow in the screencast below. Hopefully this will help!

If you continue to experience problems or are using a different workflow than I am, please let me know - I am happy to help! Feel free to record a screencast of the behavior you are experiencing and post it on this forum thread if you have any problems moving forward.

The problem occurs when the following steps are taken (sorry, no screencast...yet).

1) Copy the original component (copy/paste new in the top level)

2) Double click the sketch icon of the copy in the timeline

3) Double click the text object....nothing happens

4) Click on the lamp icon of the body in the original component (it will make the original body invisible)

5) Double click the text object in the copy again....it works!

It seems that the body of the original component obscures the text object of the copy.

Rudi

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for the response! When you are in a sketch in Fusion you cannot edit sketch geometry in another sketch. Are you copying and pasting the new copy, are you leaving it in the same location as its parent (so the bodies and sketch elements overlap exactly)? It may be that Fusion is selecting the text from the other sketch - this is why hiding the original component will ensure that you select the correct sketch elements and are able to edit the text.

I have explained this in the screencast below - hopefully it will help you work through this selection issue. Please let me know if you have any questions.

@paul.clauss,

I paste in the same spot, but then move the copied geometry. It seems that some of the component information (sketch) stays on the same spot and indeed overlaps the original.

It took me a while before I noticed. When I changed the original, I saw the overlap. Anyway, as long as hide the body, it's no issue.

I even think I saw that in one of the video's on the F360 channel.

Thanks for your help and I will move on to the next challenge :-). Lots to learn.

Bye,

Rudi
