Glad it is working better for you now. The performance issue only seems to happen when you turn off the Design history, strangely enough. It is also fast with History off and selecting the pattern instances instead of the Bodies. Anyhow, I have already made one fix that will speed things up about 10% and we will look into a more complete fix.

I'm designing 6 sets of handrail that are quite simple. The handrail is all straight and the same style, so instead of having a bunch of different files I'm designing them all in a line in the same file. They have 3/4x3/4 square tube spindles spaced at 100mm apart so instead of placing them all individually I duplicated them using an array. There's 200 of these spindles in the length of handrail we're doing. Then I turned off capturing design history so I can delete stuff easily because there's a few gaps needed within the spindles.

Now when I go to delete a spindle it takes ~30 seconds for one. If I select a few spindles to delete it loads for a long time but eventually does it. The time to delete each spindle seems to increase with each spindle selected. I can do 2 or 3 at a time, but any more than that and it hangs for quite a while. is this expected when dealing with a large array of bodies?

With all of the 3D modeling software I've used previously once you delete your design history it should remove the connections to any arrays and work much faster.

all the spindles are just bodies within the same component that will get separated out once I'm done designing everything.

Hi @WestonMFG,

Thanks for posting!

I'm sorry to hear about these performance issues that you have been experiencing with your design! I just did a quick test here on my machine trying to duplicate your situation, however, I am not seeing the same performance issues.

To help me troubleshoot this, would you be able to share the design with me? We have a great article linked here, that describes the many ways that you can share your designs to collaborate with others. For the purposes of troubleshooting this issue, I would recommend sharing a public link to the design. This will allow me to download and make modifications to the design here on my machine during my investigation while leaving it intact within your project. If for whatever reason, you cannot share the link publicly, feel free to send it to me directly in a private message.

Thanks in advance for the information! Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns - I am always happy to lend a hand!

Cheers,

Hello, I was able to reproduce your issue and I will be logging a defect.

I believe you can work around this issue by making your spindles components, then making a component pattern. This does not appear to expose the same performance issue as the Body pattern.

A component pattern will also have the benefit of making your file smaller, as the spindle geometry isn't copied, it is 'instanced'.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the follow up! When I loaded up that file this morning after leaving it for the weekend the performance was significantly better. Maybe there was something loaded into memory that was slowing it down that got cleared between sessions. Either way I'll do components next time. Thanks for the information!
