Hi James,

thank you for this quick answer. Too bad the automatic Update can't be turned off.

No, i do not have any issues so far. I run some CAD, CAM and Modeling Software (even Maya), plus nearly the whole Adobe Creative Suite on this Laptop. Sure it could be a lot faster and with big files sometimes even smoother, but it works.

I guess it is finally time to quit Apple and get a more open platform. One that does not restrict me from updating because they think it is time for me to invest in a newer product.

Luckily my main Workstation already is one more practical for using other software than an Internet Browser 😉

But thanks very much James!

All the best

Ander

Is there a way to disable automatic updates in Fusion 360? I use a Macbook Pro 2009 because of its Hardware I am not able to update to a higher iOS than 10.10. . But in order to still use Fusion 360 after the upcoming Update, i would need 10.11. . I am very happy with what i have right now. So i do not want Fusion 360 to update. Is there a way to fix this?

Thanks

Hi @Anonymous,

Welcome to the Fusion 360 Community!

There is no way to disable automatic updates - once this update hits, it should not stop your access (unless you uninstall). There will be a shutoff point at some point for OS, but our recommendation moving forward is to upgrade the OS if possible. I know you described that it is not, but it does sound like the hardware is outdated for Fusion even. Do you run into any performance problems currently using the software?

Thanks,

Just runnning into the same issue 2 years later. Cannot use Fusion360 anymore if I am not updating my OS. No warning, no grace period, just plain dead after the background update.😡

I was expecting that. A "free" software is never free. You pay with your data and/or privacy. And you are forced to follow their update policy if you like it or not.

Time to switch to some really free software 😠

Yes it is. And meanwhile I found the solution to the update-bug. But its predictable: one of the next "improvements" will be no longer compatible with OSX 10.13 (and I and others have reasons why we don't update a working OS). Although many good apps run without problems on all MacOS Versions of the last 8 years, I am afraid Fusion360 is not in that league..

Any commitment from AutoDesk how long 10.13 will still be supported? Why don't simply allow users to disable auto-updates? I don't need new features, Fusion360 is just fine now.

I would definitely be happy with turning off auto-update as well. For a different reason; with any updates comes bugs, it is unavoidable. Most of the times, it does not affect you, but there are times when a bug will affect you, and for that, I would really like to be able to turn off the auto-update, wait a few days, read the forum, see the new issues, and decide if that update is good for me or not. That would be really great.

I am about to probably run into the same scenario soon on my main workhorse computer.

That is frustrating in this day and time especially.

I would ask this, live updates should be sent as notifications either by email or some other method to inform subscribers well in advance. I too have been victim of the program messing up and requiring a re-install. Only to find out the re-install had installed a version that was no longer compatible with my OS. So in the middle of a model, I had to take time to update OS version, deal with the bugs associated with that, as well as the possible new bugs in the fusion update.

Thinking you have lost any potential access to a model that maybe you have spent a week on can cause quite a panic.

Hi,

I also request that automatic updates can be turned off, I am in a remote place with limited internet access, I need control over the traffic to prevent taking bandwidth when I need it.

Make auto update preference turned on by default, that's fine, but leave users the choice at the very least to choose when to download and when to commit to a new version of fusion.

Regards,

Jean

Well on a remote place you can disable the net connection and work offline for a certain „grace“ period. Of course all your files have to be local then.

With Little Snitch on MacOS I can at least for now disable the specific update URLs and let pass all the others. Fusion360 complains with an error but works nominally.

This is a big let down. With all the network troubles of the world it would be great to have a hammer that works without having to update or be connected to the internet.

This is why our company will be looking for other CAD/CAM tools. It's just too much hassle to have to deal with every week when dependencies break and new version issues arise. Not worth the features IMHO.

Well blocking specific URLs is always dynamic. Currently its enough (in my case!) to block a process called "streamer" from AutoDesk to disable forced updates.

Looking at this old thread its really surprising to see so many experts totally misjudging this request: No! I dont have any problems! My Mac and Fusion is running fine and smooth. That's exactly the reason why I don't want updates!

Hello. Is there a way to disable automatic update now? I do not plan on updating my OS to Windows 11, and Fusion is stating that Windows 11 will be required come the January 2026 release. I do not want this update so I can continue using Fusion on a specific machine.
