First, let me warn that I am using the trail version of Fusion to evaluate its capabilities. In prior uses I have not encountered anything like what I'm trying to report here. I loaded a Solidworks assembly file, that assembly having many subassemblies. In the resulting file, two of the subassemblies are shifted and rotated. The first image with the subs highlighted in red is the correct placement for the items. This image was created in 3D-Tools, so it was able to import it correctly. The 2nd and 3rd images show the way it was loaded into Fusion. The red clamps in the 3rd image are where the subs should be clamped. Everything else in the result file appears to be fine. They appear to be rotated 90° and offset, but maybe there are two rotations that happened here. How and what can I supply to get this evaluated/remedied ? 🙂

Lyle D

Thanks for posting this. If you can provide the solidworks file I will take a look. If there's a bug (and it seems like there is) I can log a ticket for it.

It will help if you could visibly isolate the components that are affected in some way, and provide a couple screenshots like that, showing expected results and actual results. I appreciate the images you provided, they are just hard to read clearly.

I will try to get some better viewing angles. I no longer have access to SW, so am using a cad viewer to produce the images I did. I can provide the sub-assembly the problem is in as well. I can not provide a SW pack and go that supplies all the included parts, but will attempt to assemble a zip/rar file with everything the subassembly needs. A bit of a warning, the original parts are in different folders, and SW's file will try to find those. I will put everything into a single folder so I suspect you will have supply path information if you try to open the file in SW. Should I send these to you directly?

Lyle D

Thanks. I only plan to upload the files into Fusion to see how Fusion creates the assembly. If you can provide a flat folder with all the parts it would help.

For the viewer information, I'm just hoping to see a view with only the parts affected visible or fully opaque. Can the viewer control visibility this way? Just make everything that is not important dim or invisible.

I will see if can do something closer to what you ask for, but I did these last evening. The 1st image I've circled the misplaced parts. The 2nd image I've hi-lighted the clamps in to which the parts should have been placed. The magenta colored shafts should be inside the green clamps. There is a memory lock on those shafts that should be against the green clamp's outer surface. In addition, there is a tab on the lock that fits a recess in the clamp to fix the angle. The booms should be rising upwards and passing through the rotation stoppers. Do these make sense or do you want something else? 🙂

misplaced partsproper alignment

Now I'm puzzled big time. I had loaded the SW file multiple times while doing past conversions, and kept getting the same translation error. Today I tried again and the parts loaded properly. No explanation. There have been no edits to the SW files, I am unable to do that. I can and will supply a zip file if desired, but I can't say you will encounter the problem.

Thanks for trying again. At this time, if it's working, let's hold off on sending the files.

It is unlikely an update would impact cloud-translation servers temporarily. If you see it again please let me know.

Did you save/export into a SW native .sdlasm file, or did you export into a neutral format like STEP ?

I usually don't use the SW native format, but use STEP export. The result of the imported design in Fusion 360 is the same, but you only have to deal with one STEP file and not a series of part and assembly files.

You might have to be more patient, because SW's STEP export and import are magnitudes slower than Fusion 360's.
