I have 2 questions:

1) You are in a file. You decide something created in a previous session is no longer needed or wanted. You delete it. You are warned that there are objects dependent on its existence. you delete it anyway. What happens? How do you fix the dependencies/ timeline?

2) I have a structure (see screencast) that has 4 of the same link. Only 1 of the 4 is messed up. Why?

You'd have to share your design so we can analyze it.

Hi @wesley.bonafe thanks for the invitation.

Before continuing with your designs you should review Fusion 360's R.U.L.E #1.

Some of these rail assemblies have sketches in the top level and in the components and many of these sketches Are highlighted in yellow in the timeline indication there's a warning.

Hello means that Fusion 360 can continue to work, but only with cached geometry.

So you might have created geometry n a component. Then you created a sketch based on that geometry. Then you moved the body within that component which is something that should only rarely be necessary. That might cause the sketch reference to be los.

So if you make updates to the initial geometry, the sketch does not update and that can result in unexpected results.

Also, not all of your sketches are fully contained and dimensioned.

This design will not lead to consistent track width. In the current design this will end up in a narrower track width in the middle of the segment. These segments should be partial helices.

Got it, getting better, my sketches are constrained now though were not in the beginning. I know that track section needs to be a partial helix but couldn't figure out how to draw it so I faked it.

So would you say my issues are due to bad practice?

Sorry for the late reply.

No, not necessarily. I've not had the tone to look deeper in the issues. It's not so unusual that not so clean design practices expose bugs. That's good for AD and for the general usership, however it's not to great for the individual user. You, in this case.

You should definitely go through all your designs and make sure I properly constrain and dimension all the sketches and refresh my kowldege on Fusion 360's R.U.L.E #1.

IN general if you stick to the recommended best practices you'll be happier with your designs in Fusion 360.

FYI: I replaced the bad curve/link with a new one after turning the original off. I'll chalk that up to "unexpected results". I will model the entire project again. I can do a better job now & my file management can improve. Thank you for your help.
