Hmm, I'd love to take a peek at the model as it appears A360 thinks the model has the default appearance applied. Do you have a download file to your .f3d file from Fusion that I can experiment with? I personally have not seen this behavior - although I have seen similar in that the quality does seem reduced. In this case - it does seem like the appearance is not even applied.

I am coming to Fusion 360 Team as an Autodesk Inventor Professional.

In the past when I needed to share a model; I could easily upload it to A360 Viewer and the online model would match the material/appearance produced in Inventor perfectly. Now with Fusion 360 Team, this is not the case. The model is displayed appropriately, though not perfectly, in the Fusion 360 desktop software, but not so in the online version. What gives, and why the change/loss of interoperability from A360 viewer?

INVENTORFUSION 360 DESKTOPFUSION 360 ONLINE

Hi @Anonymous,

Not a problem, I'll take a peek. Since you need to show this tomorrow, my suggestion would be to go to the Modify menu and select Appearance. From what I can see, the appearances are all inherited from the physical material of the components. I'm curious if this is what is causing the problem. If you manually apply an appearance to each component, then save and test in A360, I'd be curious to see if they show up. I'll do some testing on my end as well.

Thanks,

So here's what I have tested. Ultimately it's not making sense.

1. The material on the tread finish, 'Concrete / Flat-Broom Gray' was applied in Inventor from the Autodesk Material Library. This appearance is showing up in Fusion 360 AND in Fusion Team Viewer. This appearance does not show in the Fusion 360 standard material/appearance library.

2. The material on the rest of the components, 'Steel / Plate' was applied from the Autodesk Inventor Material Library when I assigned the material to the components. This appearance is showing up in Fusion 360 but NOT Fusion Team Viewer. This appearance also does not show in the Fusion 360 standard material/appearance library.

3. Strangely all of the materials appear properly in the automatic renderings produced for the Fusion 360 Team project dashboard.

4. When I re-apply the imported Steel/Plate appearances in Fusion 360 it does NOT appear in the Fusion 360 Team Viewer

5. When I apply 'Concrete / Flat-Broom Gray' to other parts in Fusion 360 it DOES appear in the Fusion 360 Team Viewer

6. When I apply a new appearance from the Fusion 360 library it DOES appear in the Fusion 360 Team Viewer

Why is this so complicated? Why aren't standard Autodesk Materials and Appearances simply supported by Fusion 360 and Fusion 360 Team Viewer? Why is there so much of an issue with what should be a simple work flow from one Autodesk product to another? You guys say you are all about interoperability between Autodesk products, and now all about cloud collaboration. But I have spent hours now just trying to get something very simple done!

Please advise!

Additional things I have tried without success:

1. In Inventor, cleared ALL materials & appearances from all parts and assemblies. Left ALL materials as 'Generic'. Applied the appearance 'Steel/Plate' from the Autodesk Appearance Library to all parts. Uploaded new project and new model to Fusion 360. No affect, model still displays incorrectly in the Fusion 360 Team Viewer. Note 'Concrete / Flat-Broom Gray' still displays correctly online.

2. In Inventor, saved new part with an 'edited' version of 'Steel/Plate' under the name Fusion360Plate; uploaded to Fusion 360. No effect, part displays correctly in Fusion 360 Desktop but incorrectly in the Fusion 360 Team Viewer.

Generally, really not cool.

We've logged this here as issue LMV-3084. Our initial review suggests that an internal exposure value might be getting set incorrectly. I've sent this off to an engineer for review, and hopefully he'll be able to offer a workaround or fix soon.

The engineer looking at this has identified that some Protein materials are mapped to Phong shaders in the Viewer, resulting in blown out specular highlights. Fixing this will take some time, since any changes to the material matching heuristics would potentially impact other existing models. We'll need to exercise some care in handling exactly how we match the look between renderers.

On the other hand, physical "PRISM" materials are matching very closely in the viewer by default.

As a workaround in your staircase model, please try reassigning the material and appearance for the railings that were "steel - plate". I specifically sought a physical metal material and had much better results. Here is an example where the railings are assigned Metal: Steel - Rough, and the color pushed to a slightly warmer (rusty) gray:

http://a360.co/2AHmbG9

(I'm waiting for additional clarification about which materials are which in Fusion since I'm relatively new to the team and just learning Fusion.)

Hopefully this workaround will help for now, and a more permanent improvement to the other appearances will come in a future viewer update.

Sorry about that! "Protein Materials" was a name used for a set of common materials shared across several Autodesk applications. I suspect in this case it may have been one of the materials used in your original Inventor file. (Would it be possible to see the original model? I can provide a private location if you'd like.)

I am having the same issue. This use to work well but since a few months ago whenever I share designs with browser links the assemblies show up without the color scheme I have set in Fusion 360 making it very hard to understand big assemblies. Hoping for a solution to this soon.
