Hey,

I can't combine these 2 pieces together. I get an error suggestin that they need to overlap and they do.

http://a360.co/2j1DQh8

Boundary fill doesn't work either. Says system inconsistency processing surface tangency.

I am trying to attach the lips to the upper and lower body.

Any help is apreciated.

Thanks,

ALex

Hi @calexpavel,

Welcome to the Fusion 360 community and thank you for posting about the issue!

I still need to investigate the issue further to find out what is causing the issue but I was able to remove the error by editing the upper and lower bodies. I used Press Pull command to make the bodies shorter by 0.01mm, and then Combine command worked. The screencast below shows the steps. Does this work for now?

I'll take a closer look at this and circle back here as soon as I have more information to share.

@masa.minohara Thanks I was about to reply with a very similar solution! The problem is at the edges where the bodies meet, it's causing a solver error. I'll log a bug for it.

@calexpavel Welcome to the Fusion 360 community. Thanks for posting this, what a cool model!

I found that the edges where the lip bodies meet the shell bodies are causing problems.

There are a few ways to tweak the model so the combine will succeed. Masa shows one, this is how I did it a little differently.

For the top I used Press-Pull to expand the lip 1mm. After the Combine, use Press-Pull to move the face back -1mm.

For the bottom, Press-Pull the lip face inwards a small amount, like -0.5mm. The Combine will work.

Please keep us posted on your progress, this looks cool. If you have more questions let us know.

Thanks,

Thanks for your help! It works. Extending the surface let's it combine, but i am trying to get a clean angle there like in the tutorial video and i'm trying to use boundary fill and it doesn't work even if i extended the surfaces so that they overlap.

I think I know what you are after. I don't think boundary fill is going to work as long as it cannot find a cell that is completely bound on all sides. The edge that sticks out of the smooth outer shell wraps around the end, and thus is not bound.

Here is another video showing how to keep the smooth outer face using basically the same method I showed before, but without the edge on the outside of the car.

Let me know if this helps.

Regards,

Yes, that's what i wanted. It didn't cross my mind i can delete those faces :)). I will try it as soon as i get home.

Thank you!

The key do deleting faces is getting all the faces that form the boundary of the shape being deleted.

Good luck, please let me know how this progresses, looks like a great model! (post some renderings!!)
