Well, I can't reproduce it. I don't have a win7/8 machine, only win10. I need to ask around if anyone can help reproduce it.

Thanks for reporting. If you find any other essential elements of the workflow I may have missed, please share.

Thanks,

To reproduce:

- Start with a new file and then make a quick sketch.

- Stopped the sketch and, let's see, let's decide to save at this point.

However, I was jumping around using Alt-Tab in Windows to decide what to call the file. I had the name I wanted in Notepad. Something with a BYJ-48. So I'm typing the name into the "Save" dialog box and I reach: "something 28-BY"

- What was the next letter? Change focus to Notepad, oh yes, "J", and change focus back to Fusion 360.

- At this point, the focus is on Fusion 360 but NOT on the dialog. I should have reclicked on the "Name" field to position the cursor. But I didn't. I hit the next letter "J".

Oh dear! Fusion thinks I'm trying to do a Joint. Ooops:

- Hit OK and then Cancel the "Save" Dialog. We'll try this all again shall we?

- Crash. No we won't!

I didn't realise that you (or anyone) looked at the CER reports! Nice to know and I'll be polite in the comments! There was probably a few of them as I attempted to get a reproducible test case.

It's an odd one because whatever dialog comes up evidently should be modal but isn't always? I'd find it very strange if a keystroke was redirected to the underlying window instead of the modal dialog so perhaps it's a bug in whatever lib you are using (QT?) instead of your code. And yes, it's a Windows 7 machine (fully patched).

Thanks, Conor.

You got it, the dialog should not pass keystrokes to the rest of the app. Yes it's QT. If you can figure out how to reproduce it please let us know.

I'll take a look again at my own report and see can I reproduce it from that.

However, I will say that I've seen keystrokes "bypassing" the UI before. I have quite a large script for doing internal and external gearing (which I should publish I suppose as it's quite useful! Along with my other scripts for pulling the "where is this user parameter being used" information. But I digress). I mention this as it takes a few moments to do the calculations so it's more obvious that someone odd is happening.

If I run my script (which pops up a dialog) and then do the same thing - change focus to another app like Notepad and change back - you can see that the allegedly "modal" dialog of the script does not have the focus. If I then hit "J" for joint, it's like the script is now forced to execute with whatever defaults it can get. When it completes the Joint dialog pops up!

It's slightly kooky UI behaviour but I do know it's happening and I'm guessing others do too. My guess is that a crash can happen when Fusion 360 is forced to go "Execute this as if I hit OK even if OK was greyed out" and if it can't, it's gets stuck.

I'm speculating a bit but you get the idea 🙂
