topic Fusion 360 is really slow in Fusion Support Forum

Fusion is miserably slow. I am running a desktop system that can handle dozens of broadcast quality video streams at a time using Avid Media Composer. It can run Photoshop editing multiple 200 megabyte images without a hitch. With Lightroom flogging away at print jobs in the background. There are AMPLE system resources. SSD drive space, memory and so on.

In Fusion, with only Fusion and a web browser running, I spend about a quarter of the time waiting for Fusion to stop fiddling with one file or another and watching that little wheel spin (like watching a dryer spin for hours on end) effectively making the system unusable for design. Fusion uses FAR FAR FAR too much internet bandwidth. I mean totally over the top too much. I admit I have a slow internet connection, but I cannot be the only one in the USA saddled with that problem. Autodesk should make this system much more resource friendly when it comes to putting data through the internet pipe.

My system:

OS Name Microsoft Windows 10 Pro
Version 10.0.16299 Build 16299
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 970 @ 3.20GHz, 3201 Mhz, 6 Core(s), 12 Logical Processor(s)
Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 24.0 GB
Total Physical Memory 24.0 GB
Available Physical Memory 17.4 GB
Total Virtual Memory 48.0 GB
Available Virtual Memory 38.5 GB
Page File Space 24.0 GB
Adapter Type GeForce GT 440, NVIDIA compatible
Adapter Description NVIDIA GeForce GT 440
Adapter RAM (1,073,741,824) bytes
Resolution 2560 x 1440 x 59 hertz
Bits/Pixel 32

And I'm running SSD drives which have ample free space.

I have researched what I can find about resolving Fusion's slowness and so far all I have found is a suggestion to check a box in the Graphics diagnostic that is supposed to improve performance. The graphics diagnostic and that check box don't seen to do any thing useful, btw. Kind of like those buttons in elevators that are supposed to close the doors faster, but aren't actually connected to anything.

Sigh, Fusion can be good, but there are a lot of serious flaws too.

What are you doing that's slow? Do you have sketches with hundreds of line segments from imported DXF files for example? You can run Fusion in offline mode, the program itself is not cloud based only the filing system is, I have seen long pauses when there's an auto save if you're working on a big design.

Going to need more info about what you're doing, screenshots, screencast and preferably can you export a problem design as an f3d file and attach.

Thanks Mark.

Hi, thanks for asking.

I have found that a lot of the slowness has to do with waiting for things to happen while the online portion is doing it's thing. If I could use Save As for components when offline, I would work offline more and just do updates when I don't have to watch it. For some reason, Fusion disables that feature. So, I have to be online more than I would like. Also, after doing some reading of other posts, I decided to try a new video card with more memory. It has not arrived yet, so I don't know if that will speed things up or not. As for screen shots, I am not certain what I could capture that would be useful to describe in detail what is slow. The only external references I am using are fusion models withing other fusion models. No external dxf files or anything like that. I have found breaking a design down into separate component designs and staying out of the main design file as much as possible helps with the speed. Probably because the updates are not slowing the system down.

If something specific I can record comes along I will do so.

Thanks again.

I found the problem, Windows 10 had automatically turned on battery saving mode which reduced max CPU usage to 75%. I turned that off and it works perfectly now.
