Hello,

I am new to using Fusion for the first time because I need to increase the thickness of my dental retainer, but I've run into a number of problems. For reference, I 3D scanned the top surface of my retainer and imported the mesh as an stl file onto Fusion. Then I used the convert mesh tool to get the surface and hopefully increase the thickness. However, several times I've run into my computer heating up and the application not responding every time I enter a thickness of 1 millimeter. I've tried smoothing the surface but to no avail as well. I tried extruding but it doesn't look like it's working.

Is there a way to edit my model maybe so I can get a decent thickness? I have the model attached below.

Scanned meshes mostly are a terrible projects for Fusion beginners!

The scan result is also not great.

I would try this using Autodesk Meshmixer.

This is maybe 15 minutes of work in Meshmixer on my computer.

I first deleted the over hang on the inside.

Then I used the robust brush to smoothen the entire perimeter

Then I used the selection -> edit -> offset tool with the connected option selected and thickened the mesh -1mm (meaning toward the inside). You need to select something for the edit menu to appear.

Then I used the brush again to soften the hard edges.

The zipped result is attached.
