I just purchased a new HP Spectre x360 on Saturday and Fusion is running horrible on it. When in a sketch for a new component or editing a old sketch, it constantly freezes up for 10 sec. I was running it on a 5 year old laptop with half the power and it ran fine. I purchased the new one because my old one would over heat and shut down.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you.

Hi @Anonymous,

I'm sorry to hear that you're having freezing/lagging problems with your new computer! Can you please post a screenshot of your graphics diagnostic window? Sometimes new computers aren't set up with the latest driver for a given graphics card, so a computer made in 2017 could be running a graphics driver from 2015. There are also some graphics cards that don't play well with Fusion 360.

Also, do you mind answering a few more questions to narrow down what's happening?

Is this happening only in sketches, or when editing 3D bodies as well?

Does this happen only in new designs (even brand new, blank ones), only in old ones, or in every design?

Are you using a space mouse?

Do you see any improvement in performance if you switch to offline mode?

Do you see any improvement in performance if Fusion 360 is the only application running?

Are dialog boxes coming up as expected, are those lagging/freezing as well, or are they black/blank?

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for posting! New computers can often come with old versions of graphics drivers - the performance issues you are experiencing may be due to out-of-date graphics drivers. Please ensure you are using the most recently available drivers for your system.

I also wonder if your settings in Fusion are causing this issue. Does performance improve if you limit effects for performance?

I hope this helps! Please let me know if you continue to experience problems - I am happy to assist.

A few ideas come to mind

Try updating the drivers on the laptop

Go to task manager and see how much of your system is being used with out fusion open as oem computers tend to have a lot of bloatware

check your specs vs the minimum specs for fusion while you have all the background processes running, so at least 3 gigs of available ram

check thermals to see if components are being throttled because of temps

I had to install Solidworks on a number of HP machines recently and after the first one did not perform well I removed all the HP programs in the Windows remove programs list and performance improved significantly.

Another indicator was that after I had installed the team viewer app their IT company uses on a fresh HP machine, the processor was maxed out at 100% for hours, once the HP programs were removed it never happened again.

Hi Chris, I used the standard remove programs Windows function that is found in the control panel under programs and features.

If you have not put too much time into setting up the machine I would do a complete reset of Windows and remove everything. I did this on my HP mini and it cleaned out all the HP and Intel garbage, the machine runs like a dream.

I wanted to add that I have just remembered running Solidworks on a Dell with the same graphics card that your machine has, the program ran fine when I tested the machine with a 500 component assembly.

Thanks for posting. There are a number of reasons you may not be able to launch Fusion on your new laptop.

Is Fusion installed on an Admin account?

What behavior is occurring when you attempt to launch Fusion? Do you receive error messages, or is there no response?
