BREAK VIEW FOR DRAWINGS

I'm wondering if there is any updated status regarding a 'break view' function for the drawings workspace? As simple and really as standard such a function is in the CAD world I'd think this would be something that would have hit Autodesk's ToDo list long ago for getting implemented into Fusion 360.

My company is looking to make a full changeover from Solidworks to Fusion 360 as our primary CAD program but something as basic as this is a pretty big holdup for us. We work with a lot of small diameter long parts and without a break view functionality we wouldn't have any way of creating drawings for such parts. So it kind of defeats the purpose for us to make the full changeover. Can this feature/function get bumped up on the list to have worked into the Fusion 360 package soon?

Unfortunately, the Broken Views is a Future consideration in our Ideastation.

Adding votes to the ideastation is the best way to let the product management team know what is most important to you.

A future consideration? Seriously...

It´s things like this that makes me question if F360 really should be in an industrial enviroment.

People/Companies that use the software for more than just 3d printing and making models for renders, need to be able to present their work in a proper manor to the people that actually manufacture the parts.

Misunderstandings costs money... a long shaft with alot of details, that you can not scale up, and break of. Will not be a good way to communicate your design.

And the idea of breaking of a view is not new... pre CAD not new... I´ll leave it at that.

Hello, gerriss.

Fusion 360 still has many basic functions not yet implemented (specailly in the drawing environment) but you can come around with a little creativity (it's the brazilian way). They don't really hurry with those, though... When i first started using it about 3 years ago I made a thread about welding symbols in drawings and still nothing happened (we just used the anotation command to specify the weldings)...

Anyway, to the solution:

In this case I'm making a 1:1 scale drawing of a part that's +-1950mm long and made of 30x30mm square tubes. Instead of using break view, I made a 1:1 view of the whole part outside the page and used the detail view twice to select just the tips of the part and place the details in the page. Take a look at the printscreen bellow.

I worked with solidworks for a long time but I don't plan on getting back (even with these limitations). We're making electric cars in Fusion and it's been a great experience, assemblying is much better than in solidworks.

Hope it helps you get around that issue.

We want all of them! How many years does it take to impliment really basic features like this? Why was this programme considered ready for launch if Autodesk knew it would take this long to reach a basic level of useability?

I'll second that request. I have a Ø30mm x 2200mm long part with detail at each end so I'm going to redraw and reduce the main shaft part of the body to say 200mm long and then fudge/correct the length dimension. I'm assuming that is possible in Fusion.

To whomever is here looking for answers years later. This feature was released in the latest update (January 2021). Excerpt from the release notes:

New in preview! – Broken Views
Preferences > Preview Features > Drawing > Break View
Those of you with long or tall parts and assemblies can now display them as a broken view! We are so excited to get this feature to you that we are releasing it early as a Preview, so first head to your Preferences, then choose Preview Features, and turn on Break View.

Once you’ve turned on the Preview feature you will find a new toolbar button near the Drawing Views. Start the command, choose a view, then place the two locations where you want to break your model.

You can add a break to a base view, edit the break, and adjust the spacing between the two “halves” of your view. Your “break” can be either horizontal or vertical. You can add a dimension “across” the break and it displays the correct value. There are some known limitations with this feature-in-preview. We are very interested in your feedback on this preview feature. We have posted a brief list of what is working, and where the feature still needs improvement, on the forum. Comments, questions, and bug reports can be reported in replies to this forum post, and the feature list is included in that forum thread.

I've tried it and the hatches in other cut Views don't work a bit.
For the old drawing in the assembly, the functionality Break View did not mark the views, but in the new drawing it worked. video in the attachment
But I expected more from the new feature in the new program. It's just a copy of nothing new features.

Maybe something like that would be nice.

If you look at the first reply you can see that section views are still being worked on.

When we are fully satisfied they are displaying correctly we will bring the feature out of preview. Thanks for your patience, and keep the feedback coming!

Just figured it out, the break view does not work if the drawing is rotated. I rotated the model in order to make it work. it should work both ways but it doesn't.

Support for breaking a view that has been rotated is a known issue and we will have that fixed soon. Thanks for the report.
