Hello Fusion team,

I am experiencing huge performance hits, now that my sketch had accumulated more details. The UI crashes after every other step and fusion redraws my changes after more than 5 seconds after mouse movement.

I've had a few program crashes as well. Neither the CPU nor RAM are tasked and I think the GPU isn't the one to blame as there are no 3d faces yet and a Nvidia 1080 should handle things without a problem.

Could I add someone from the staff to take a look at my project or to whom i can provide any other information.

This is a screencast to visualize the lagging https://autode.sk/2J1Dpir . I've also disables select through as I've read in another thread that it could help

These are my current graphic settings.

[GPU Information]
GPU Device: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080
GPU RAM: 8192 MB
GPU Driver API: DirectX 11.0
GPU Driver Version: 1.4.835
GPU Driver Date: 10/20/2017

[Graphics Effects Settings]
Anti Aliasing: On
Ambient Occlusion: On
Object Shadow: Off
Ground Shadow: On
Ground Reflection: Off
Selection Display Style: Normal
Transparency Effect: Better Performance

[Limit effects to optimize performance]
Off

In the meantime I'll try updating the drivers to see if it help at all

Hi @hextoza,

Welcome to the Fusion 360 Community!

Hmm, that does seem really slow. It's hard to tell what's going on though since I can only see a small portion of the sketch. Can you add me to the project (james.youmatz@autodesk.com) or share a download link to your design.

I'm curious - do you have a lot of fit points or constraints on that spline that you are clicking and dragging? Let's say you do - the the sketch solver (which can be slow at times) has to compute all those constraints and conditions and update it per drag which can be intensive.

Thanks,

Hello James!

I've sent you an invitation to the project. On that particular spline there aren't many constraints, but through the project - a ton. I had noticed the performance drop when I started the middle part with a lot of equal and parallel constraints. Then I sat down to reduce the numbers substantially and things really were a bit better, but not perfect per se.

Kind Regards,

Georgi

Hi @hextoza,

Oh yea, I do believe the constraints, parameters, etc are the issue. My case in point - if you edit the first sketch which is just a basic rectangle, you have no performance issues. The second sketch however, contains a LOT of references and tangent constraints. Each one affects a different portion of the sketch. You may want to break this sketch up into different sketches for each portion of the canvas you are trying to attack. You will notice in areas that have a higher number of constraints and calculations (mostly where the parameter driven and tangent constraints are) that if you make a minor change, all of those needs to be calculated and updated. That is intensive for Fusion.

My other big question is - you are tracing a canvas. Is there a need to define line dimensions, and arc radius? These are also bogging down the solver by adding extra constraints. The tangent constraints make sense however, although just from personal experience, I found if you have too many in one area they can start to affect each other and it can be hard to maintain that many tangencies per change you make to your sketch.

Thanks,

Hello James.

Splitting it up in fewer sketches might just be the solution I'd need. Most of the tangencies are from fillets as I find it easier to follow the contour with lines+arcs instead of splines. Else I'm putting some dimensions as the sketch is up to scale and will be directly laser cut. In the meantime I've fixed in place everything i'm not working with and I've noticed a considerable gain in performance which will in fact allow me to finish it as I'm near completion.

Thank you for the advises!
