I've been trying to install the Shaper add-in for a couple months on my MacBook with no success. I could get other add-in's to install but not that one. It would seem like it installed but never quite did. I just found this post and tried it and it worked! Thank you James!

Hello.

I'm having lot's of trouble trying to install add-ins.

Every add-ins from the fusion app store have failed to install. I tried de-installing fusion and making a fresh install. I updated my mac os to the latest version. And it's still not working.

I checked on the forum and could't see a post resolving the "before" installation troubleshooting.

Hope someone can help me figure this one out.

Cheers,

fred

Hi @fredgab,

Sorry to hear that! Do you have an example add-in that I can test on my Mac? Fortunately, we should be able to manually add the add-in via the Scripts and Add-Ins tool within Fusion 360. The installer just automatically installs it to Fusion for you. You may have to extract it from the package file first however. I can create a step by step for you if you want to provide an example add-in.

Thanks,

Hello,

thank you for your fast reply.

The latest one I tried to install is this one:

https://apps.autodesk.com/FUSION/en/Detail/Index?id=2857656002406992603&os=Mac&appLang=en

Unfortunately I can't figure out how to go past the installation process, I'd be ok to install them all manualy.

Thank you very much,

Fred

Hi @fredgab,

This is a bit complicated, but it is doable. The first steps we need to do is create a bundle from the .pkg file that you download. To do this:

Download the CSV-BOM-macos.pkg file

Open Terminal

Type the following command: cd /Users/<username/downloads

This will ensure the next step outputs the file in the downloads folder

Type the following command: pkgutil --expand CSV-BOM-macos.pkg newPkgDir

Note that newPkgDir will name the output folder name. You can name this whatever you want.

Navigate to the folder location that you created newPkgDir

Right-click the CSV-BOM-macos.bundle.pkg and select Show Packages Contents

Open Archive Utility (should be a program that comes with Mac). Once open it will display in your dock

Drag the Payload file within the newPkgDir onto the dock icon for the Archive Utility

This will create the bundle file you need

Copy the .bundle file that is created.

I have attached the .bundle file below.

The next steps outline adding the .bundle file manually to Fusion

Close Fusion 360

Copy the .bundle file you created above

Navigate to /Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/Autodesk/ApplicationPlugins

Paste the .bundle file into this folder

Restart Fusion 360

What a gigantic pain in the ass! What's the point of an integrated app store if I have to jump through a million hoops to install a simple plugin?

Excellent explanation, thank you. Should mention that Archive Utility is ordinarily hidden on the Mac, so, in Finder you have to:

Go > Go To Folder > /System/Library/CoreServices/Applications

in order to reveal it.

I must say this is a horribly complicated way to load add-ins. The whole point of the Autocad app store should be to make to process seamless. Why not just deliver the payload bundle and install it directly into /Users/<name>/Library/Application Support/Autodesk/ApplicationPlugins?

Thanks, this really helped in installing the Shaper Add-in. Once you get to the payload file you can also right-click on it, then > open with Archive Utility to get the *.bundle file.

So seamless. Here we are 4 years later and we still have the same problem. If this was iOS we’d be saying do you remember when Apple brought out the iPhone. What were they thinking. 😊
