Hi im a newbie to 360 fusion ..and have a Mac laptop pro 2015. with a magic mouse2 i believe and i cant get the orbit function to work with it unless i click on the orbit symbol at the bottom of the screen. I tried going to preferences and changing the setting to solidworks or the other thing but every time i tried to use the f2 key it just changes the brightness. then when i check the preference its gone back to Fusion 360. Bit stuck any help would be grateful. Namaste.

Hi @berkeley9DHFL,

Thank you for posting in the forum! Just to check, you have changed "Pan, Zoom, Orbit shortcuts" option to SolidWorks in the Preferences menu, but it switches back to Fusion when you hit F2 key, is that correct?

Did you hit Apply or OK button before closing the Preferences menu?

I'm having difficulty reproducing the issue, would you be able to record a screencast of the issue?

Also, I haven't had a chance to try this myself but another user shared a workaround in this forum thread and that may be helpful for you.

For CAD work my recommendation would be to replace the Magic Mouse with a traditional 2-button and scroll-wheel mouse. I've tried to work with the magic mouse for over a year with a different 3D software (before Fusion 360 was out) and it was slow, imprecise and generally unpleasant.

I use a Razer Orochi (cabled) on my mid 2010 27" iMac and now use a Razer Atheris (wirelss, not Bluetooth) without problems with my 2017 15" MacBook Pro.

I have relatively large hands, but like small mice, thus the use of small mobile gaming mice. You should be able you use any nomal 2-button scroll-click-wheel mouse.

Hi there!

First of all: WHY IS THIS A PROBLEM??? GET YOUR S**T TOGETHER AUTODESK!!! A basic funtion like this should work from the beginning on a Mac with an Apple mouse.

Even though this thread is nearly a year old I want to share my solutions.

I had the same problem and didn't want do buy a new mouse.

SOLUTION 1 (Simple and free): change the "Pan, Zoom, Orbit shortcuts" in the preferences to SolidWorks. Then go to Mac Systempreferences and select the option to use the "F-buttons" with standard funktions. otherwise you have to press fn+F2.

But because I didn't want to press F2+mous button I went for...

SOLUTION 2 (best!): Get BetterTouchTool. There is a free trial and the full version is around 6$ and worth it. With this tool you can create gestures for mouse and trackpad with custom funktions. I created a 3-finger klick with the funktion "middle click". And boom... I'm able to orbit and pan with my simulated middle click.

Thanks for the advice. It works but the response is too slow, in fact the rotation is not free. Any solution for that?

Ladies & Gentlemen.

There is a VERY simple solution to this that I have been using with much success for several years now.

Download Either MagicPrefs (what I use - it's free, but will eventually stop working) or Better Touch Tool (what I will have to switch to when Magic Prefs no longer works).

Either will work great. Problem solved.

EDIT: I didn't completely read @cor-loss's post completely - beat me to it.

I was looking for this also and noticing that this thread is over 3 years old and no solution irked me to no end. however I finally found something that works with the magic mouse. Bear with me since I am just learning to use fusion 360 and don't know how this solution will be better or worse but at least I found the orbiter on the mouse. I went into my preferences in fusion 360 and scrolled down to choose TINKERCAD in pan, zoom, orbiter . then selected APPLY, and then OK. NOW I get orbiter control by top clicking and holding the magic mouse while orbiting around. It feels like my middle finger is almost falling off the edge of the magic mouse when doing it but hey it works. its basically press down the 2 O'Clock edge of the mouse for orbiter ....good luck amigos.

Lando

You are basically describing Right Click on magic mouse. Yes correct thats what I use without any third party applications. Right click and hold for orbiter and right click for context menu and choose Pan. When you get used to it all work fast and naturally.
