Can't start generative design graphic card problem

I can't start generative design. I got a message that my videocard does not meet the minimal requirements. What are the minimal requirements?

I'am using an iMac with parallels and windows 8. All my Design & manufacturing software works fine except Recap because openGL 3.3 is not supported by parallels.

My videocard is a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4096 MB.

Thank you for posting! When are you receiving the message about graphics card? Is that when you launch Generative Design or is that when you are using Fusion 360?

It is only when I start generative design (see attachment). Fusion, inventor,autocad, navis are all working fine on my computer.

Thank you for the screenshot! When was the last time you updated the graphics driver? Could you try updating the graphics driver to see if that helps?

I cannot update directly in windows because I use an iMac in combination with Parallels. My iMac videocard is up to date. (see screenshot)

Thank you for the screenshot! I'm sorry but I haven't seen the error message before and not sure how to fix the issue. I'll check internally and post more information as soon as I have one.

I am having the same issues. I can a error message telling me that my graphic card doesnt meet the requirements. I have a Quaddro M5000M with the latest drivers. Any solutions?

Hi @stiller.design,

Thanks for posting as well. We are still trying to get to the bottom of this internally. Both of the cards posted should be more than enough to start GD. Just to check - are you also on parallels such as @dewit3d? It is possible that parallels does not support the GPU drivers necessary to run GD. I will check on that. Do either of you have bootcamp to test with? I know a few people internally are able to run GD via bootcamp.

What OS are you natively using. In the Windows environment, can you start GD without going through Fusion first? Are you able to right-click the desktop icon and select "Run with Graphics Processor"? Does the correct card appear in this menu?

I'am using macOS Sierra 10.12.6, Parallels 13.3 and windows 8.1 . Autodesk Recap doesn't work because of an openGL issue (the rest from the Design&Manufactoring collection works fine). Parallels supports openGL 3.2 but not always. In the attachment is a screenshot from recap, maybe this will help. I can start GD directly without fusion, but when I right-click there is no "Run with Graphics Processor" option.

Thanks for sharing. I've personally never used parallels, so let me do a bit of research on this. Definitely interesting that it starts without the Fusion interaction. Do you have dual graphics cards? Also, in the windows environment is there an Nvidia control panel? In this control panel (or at least natively on Windows) if you have dual graphics cards you can enable that option per this guide here. Let me ask around a bit on this one.

There is no control inside (windows) parallels for the videocard and I have only the videocard from the iMac.

I am running windows 10 pro on a dell 7710 laptop. i deactivated the integrated graphic card in the bios and also changed the NVIDIA settings so it will always use the dedicated graphic card.

Any news? I have a project I need Gererative Design and I cant use it with win10 on Quaddro card. WHY?

Hi @stiller.design,

The quadro card should be working - I have this in my Dell workstation and can run GD. My only thought is that for some reason GD is still launching with the integrated card.

If you right click the desktop icon for GD, do you have the "Run with Graphics Processor" option and are able to select the NVidia card manually? If not, if you open the NVidia control center, can you add the right-click option to the context menu per this guide here? Also, have you updated the drivers from NVidia lately?

Let me find out if there is a log that outputs what GD is using for the GPU.

I have a Dell 7710 laptop and deactivated the integrated video card via BIOS ("Run with Graphics Processor" option due to that is not available anymore) . It still tells me that my graphic card is not sufficient. Any idea where I can find the log file? I will share it with you...

You can find the log at:

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Autodesk\Autodesk Generative Design

AppData is hidden by default so you will have enable these hidden folders from Control Panel. The name of the file should be AGD.log

Hi @stiller.design,

Not a problem! Can you also while I'm investigating, go to the NVidia website and download and install the latest driver for your card? I just want to make sure we are working with a clean slate here. Note - that when you go to install the driver, there is a custom install option where you can cleanly install the driver. I would recommend going this route.
