Are you sure it was STL file export and not STEP or STP file export your were using. STEP files imported into Fusion create components.

Hi Forum

Prior to last week, I've been sharing assembly designs between myself and my factory. We've been using .STP exports, I'm on Fusion and the factory is using SolidWorks. There have been no issues and the workflow was going well. As of the end of last week, whenever the factory makes an export .STP file of the assembly, and I open it in F360, there are no longer components in the assembly, only bodies.

Any ideas if something has changed with F360?

my mistake, we were using STEP .STP files not .STL

There was an update mid-week last week to F360, which is my thought as to why I am now having the issue.

I am not aware of any change with STEP import in Fusion. I tested a quick example design from Fusion->STEP->Fusion, and component structure is preserved (see sample STEP file). Are you sure that the factory's STEP export does not have some sort of "compress hierarchy" setting enabled for Solidworks STEP export? (I do not have access to Solidworks to test it).

That depends on the export settings in SolidWorks. SolidWorks and other CAD tools (ZW3D, for example).

They allow the export of assemblies as part files, in which case they contain a flat structure of solid and/or surface bodies.
